Brett L. Murphy, the founder of Bittyrina and inventor of the "leotank" improved leotard, conceived the idea of creating a lifestyle brand dedicated to introducing children to dance while she struggled to dress and prepare her own bittyrina for her very first ballet class.
Like Brett, more parents are taking the initiative to introduce their children to dance and gymnastics classes at an early age. The market has been slow to address the specific needs of early dancers, especially. Traditional dance wear is notoriously inconvenient and uncomfortable for our youngest dancers. The leotards available for little dancers are merely shrunken adult leos, and they remain difficult to pull up and down.
Quite often, children involved in dance dabble in other activities that call for a leotard. Why not have a garment suitable and appropriate for multiple forms of dance or dance and gymnastics? The leotank is Brett's answer to one-dimensional and inconvenient traditional leotards.
After a few stressful episodes of racing to her daughter's daycare after work, taking off all of her tiny dancer's clothes in the parking lot of her dance school, and struggling to squeeze the two-year-old into her ballet tights and leotard, Brett decided that she'd make mid-week dance classes easier for parents of bitty dancers and gymnasts.
She drafted up a leotard design that would make her daughter's introduction to dance a little less traumatic. After drafting the leotank design, which attaches to bottoms at the waist to make it easier for her recently-potty-trained tot to maneuver in and out, she decided to enhance the improved leotard's utility to make it reversible AND convertible.
The leotank can be used for ballet and gymnastics... or jazz... or tap... or acro, because the designs can be patterned on one side for gymnastics or jazz and traditional ballet pink on the other side for ballet class. A variety of tops and bottoms will be available, so that the wearer can combine different styles and sizes. Also, different cuts of the leotank bottoms will be available. Some early dancers need more room for training pants and diapers.
Brett's aunt, a seamstress, sewed the first prototype. Brett spent a bit over a year researching and fine-tuning samples with her daughter acting as her fit model. Having used her daughter, who is sensory-sensitive and extremely particular about the fit of clothing, Brett is confident that the leotank will be very comfy to bittyrinas. She is ready to test out the latest iteration on more little dancers and move into full-blown production by the end of 2018.
Bittyrina is dedicated to designing distraction-free dance wear for miniature dance queens.
More than ever, kids are enrolled in multiple extracurricular activities. It's hard enough getting them to class on time, but when you add clothing changes and unexpected potty mishaps... the process becomes a headache. For some parents, especially working parents, the inconvenience is unbearable.
These scenarios create a barrier to access that Bittyrina hopes to eliminate. Inspired further by the invention of the leotank, Brett Murphy has crafted a brand that focuses on easing the introduction of dance training and helping dance educators retain their students. Bittyrina also offer a number of services to dance schools and host events to encourage free-dance, family literacy, and relationship building. Brett has authored books, a dance party curriculum, and created a mobile app to help parents and teachers introduce their children to dance.
Our overall mission is to strengthen the preexisting bond between humans of all backgrounds by encouraging everyone to forget the nonsense and dance their worries away. We want to keep little dancers dancing. With your contribution, we can kick leotank production into high gear and gain a new community of cherished supporters!

Risks and challenges
There are so many dance schools, dancers, and dance enthusiasts... for several good reasons. Dance is a universal language that crosses boundaries. Our biggest challenge to date is reaching all the people who could benefit from our products -- especially, the improved leotard highlighted in this campaign. This leotard will make "chauffeuring" little dancers and gymnasts to and fro easier by eliminating inconvenient steps in the process.
We hope to overcome this challenge by employing PR and advertising efforts that would help us reach our target market. We want to get the leotank into as many households with little dancers and gymnasts, so that we can gauge areas for improvement, continue to develop our product, and help parents keep active kiddos moving!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
