While Sinead O'Connor has agreed to record Lord I Just Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes for this album, earlier this summer she opened two performances at Lincoln Center with Blind Willie Johnson's John The Revelator. Below is some audience footage from that awesome concert. Those are members of Blind Boys of Alabama and Soul Stirrers singing background. Tom Waits has agreed to record both John the Revelator as well as Soul of a Man for this project!
As always, THANK YOU for your continued support and help spreading the word!
From Wikipedia: "John the Revelator" is a traditional gospel blues call and response song. It has been called "one of the most powerful songs in all of pre-war acoustic music ... [which] has been hugely influential to blues performers". American gospel-blues musician Blind Willie Johnson recorded "John the Revelator" in 1930 and subsequently a variety of artists have recorded their renditions of the song, often with variations in the verses and music. The song's title refers to the Apostle John, the author of the Book of Revelation, and quotes several passages from the Bible in the tradition of African-American spirituals.
