Outlanders: Phase 8
Welcome to the latest Kickstarter from Blind Beggar Miniatures: The aim of this campaign is to get the new Amphibious Alien miniatures, the Dee-Pwonz Combat Squad, into production in white metal.
With your help it will happen!.
The Dee-Pwonz are a union of space travelling amphibious races first encountered by the human colonists on Outland with the arrival last year of the Mother Hydra.
The Mother Hydra is the name of the large FTL capable ship that appeared without warning in the upper atmosphere of the planet. It swiftly dispatched a delegation to the Governor of the colony, Baron Mong, to explain their presence.
The reason for this visit was, at first, kept secret from the populace to avoid causing alarm. Over time the truth has leaked out and now it is generally known that Outland is what the Dee-Pwonz refer to as a 'Spawnworld'.
A Spawnworld is one where the Dee-Pwonz lay their eggs in their millions from which future generations will hatch when the local temperature and conditions reach the perfect point. At this point a ship is sent to retrieve the younglings as they are extremely vulnerable at this stage, being almost helpless.
It appears that that time is now!
Dee-Pwonz Combat Squad.
When the Dee-Pwonz send a delegation anywhere on the planet they are always accompanied by at least one Combat Squad for protection. These Combat Squads are normally formed of approximately seven individuals, although larger Squads have been spotted.
The basic Squad seems to mainly consist of two types of 'Soldier'.
The most common are the huge and imposing 'Bulls' (as they have become known amongst the human colonists).which can stand over six feet tall even in their permanent hunched over posture that they seem to adopt on land. It is not their height that makes them so imposing as much as their mass. They can easily weigh twice as much as a human male and sometimes even more. In addition to their imposing bulk, they are typically armed with a huge 'cannon' which would normally be considered a squad support weapon by most armed forces. With five of these in each Combat Squad, their potential firepower is quite terrifying!
The second soldier type in the Combat Squads are much smaller, often 'hammerheaded' in appearance and are usually referred to as 'Scouts' by the humans on Outland, but other less savoury names are sometimes used too.
The Scouts are much smaller than their larger cousins, and are approximately the size and weight of a human adult. Their equipment is also more in keeping with a human warrior too, lacking the strength to carry the much larger weaponry associated with the 'Bulls', these members seem to fulfil the role of light infantry or scouts, thus their name.
A standard Dee-Pwonz Combat Squad contains seven members at the beginning of the campaign, made up of five Bulls and two Scouts. The Squad may be added to as Stretch Goals are Unlocked.
The Dee-Pwonz Delegation.
The Dee-Pwonz Delegation Pledge Level also features miniatures from the earlier Amphibious Aliens release, The Crew of the Mother Hydra.
These are the Amphibious Flight Crew* and Amphibious Alien Nobles* who will be joined by a Combat Squad to form a Delegation.
*These Packs will also be available as Add-Ons if the Stretch Goal is reached.
Stretch Goals and Add-Ons.
There are a few possible Stretch Goals for this campaign, ranging from Packs being Unlocked which may be added to your Pledge at the cost shown, to an additional member being added to Combat Squads.
Stretch Goal #1 at £1000: Amphibious Alien Nobles, Amphibious Flight Crew and Amphibious Alien Civilian Packs Unlocked (£9 Add-On per Pack)
Should we reach the £1000 mark the option to add Amphibious Alien Noble, Amphibious Alien Civilians and/or Amphibious Flight Crew Packs to your Pledge parcel will be Unlocked for a cost of an additional £9 per Pack..
Stretch Goal #2 at £1500: Officer (Free Add-On to each Combat Squad)
Should we reach the £1500 mark, a Dee-Pwonz Officer will be added to each Combat Squad at no further cost.
Juggenfloot! The Band
(optional £25 Add-On)
For those that missed out on the opportunity last year, there is also the option to add the Band, Juggenfloot, to your Pledge parcel for an additional £25.
Juggenfloot has several members of the Dee-Pwonz within it's ranks and are proving hugely popular across the galaxy.
A Bonus Figure for Early Backers!
An extra Bonus for those that Back the project early is in the form of 'Crew Member #9' from the earlier Mother Hydra campaign.
The first 25 Backers with physical rewards will receive an additional bonus '#9' in their parcel free of charge!
All of the above figures either have 'slotta' base tabs which have been designed to fit most types of plastic slotted bases .
Bases are NOT supplied.
There are several reasons for this:
Firstly, whichever type that I chose may not necessarily be compatible with those of any given Backer.
Secondly, I would have to increase the cost of all Pledges to cover this.
Thirdly, and most importantly, the space that they occupy could take parcels from the Large Letter category, which 95% of all parcels so far in previous campaigns have fit into, up to a Small Parcel and thus increase the postage further. This can be quite a significant increase when sending overseas.
Bearing all these factors in mind I have decided it makes more sense not to add them.
Risks and challenges
I have already run many successful Kickstarter campaigns, all of which have been fulfilled well within the time frame specified at the the time of launch.
I see no reason why this should be any different as the miniatures have already been sculpted and master moulds have been made to eliminate as much risk of delays as is possible.
This project is to fund the production moulding and casting of the Crew.
I have factored in extra time for any delay in casting, so every pledge should be fulfilled in time.
The only problem would be if the Dee-Pwonz High Council were to interfere and halt production but that is unlikely as they are in a galaxy far, far away.....or something like that.
