Playing as Nanobot Duo "Cecil" and "Egor" inside the veins of the body, fight against an evil virus in this action packed shoot 'em up.
About this project
"It has great gameplay, great graphics and a great story, I can't wait to play through Between Heartbeats!" - Dan Lloyd, Element Animation
"Between Heartbeats comes off as a zanier Osmosis Jones. I can dig it." - Vinny Parisi, Indie Game Magazine Editor-in-Chief
Meet "Cecil" and "Egor". Despite being microbots, they have a lot of heart - and they want to share it with you.
"R-Type meets Wizball meets Cardiac Surgery" - Some guy on Facebook who saw this video.
After a medical experiment goes horribly wrong, take control of E.G.O.R and C.E.C.I.L in the veins of the body trying to sort out a right kerfuffle when their human host begins getting battered by a powerful virus.
Scientists Emily Raddings and Brian Mills are on point, though. Throughout the game, Emily and Brian give guidance as they oversee Cecil and Egor through their trials and tribulations. As the creators of Cecil and Egor, they watch closely and monitor the nanobot duo's progress.
Combining the brute strength of E.G.O.R and the tactical know-how of C.E.C.I.L, players must battle their way through the body; smashing up as many of the virus spores as they can and repairing the damage left behind. Heroes do come in many shapes and sizes!
Take control, blast your way through wave after wave of countless enemies hell bent on your destruction!
Explore twisty turny levels as you try to navigate your way past chuffin' loads of obstacles and puzzles to progress through the game or to find hidden collectibles and power-ups.
Seamlessly switch between the heroes to suit each situation and tailor it to your unique play style! Detach from one another to explore multiple areas of the level at the same time, and use in game indicators to locate one another afterwards.
Risks and challenges
Creating a video game is always a risky business. Set aside from all of the development issues, marketing and financing it can be a real thorn in your side with any project - big or small.
For us, the main issue is the fact that we don't currently have a designated studio space to be able to develop in. We're all still students about to enter our final year of University, so thus far each developer has worked separately from one another and collaborations have been made via an extensive use of Trello and Google Drive. However, we are more than capable of developing this project and we are all dedicating all of our spare time bringing this project to life. We've managed it for the past 3 months since we began developing the project, and we'll continue to manage it until it's finished!
Our history only spans back to 2013 and in that time we've been accepted to all 4 of the Games Industry's major indie platforms; ID@Xbox, Sony Developer Network, Nintendo Developer Network and Steam. We've exhibited at expos in different parts of the country with work-in-progress titles and have started to make a name for ourselves in the region. We aren't going to stop there, though! We're hoping Between Heartbeats is the game that gets our name out there on a much larger scale and with our passion, drive and combined experience we have what it takes to get it there!
Not only have we achieved all of this in such a short space of time , we've also won awards at Global Game Jam Events including "Best Game" this year and a "Project Management Award" in 2013. We've also been chosen as advocates for an initiative running in Hull called Platform Studios - aimed at helping game development startups get off the ground. We've often been referred to by the founder of that company as a "well oiled machine"!
We've been working long hours and most days of the week over the past few months to get the game to this stage to compensate for the coming time loss once University Studies resume in September. Despite the stress of these studies and the desperate lack of being able to work in the same room together on this project 95% of the time, we're all equally passionate about getting this game to where we want it to be. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses extensively and communication isn't an issue. We're all making sacrifices so that Between Heartbeats is the best we can make it. It's not an easy task, but we're going to give it our best shot.
It's these reasons why we believe we are prepared to handle any issues that may arise during the development of Between Heartbeats and meet our target of an April 2016 release.
Thanks for taking the time to read this far if you have done! It means a lot to us to even have people considering what we're working on as being worth their time to read up on, so truly from all of us here at Blimbu - thank you!
