Let's put Don't Spit the Water on TV! One network exec has promised to air our pilot in Chicago if we can produce it.
In October, 2004, a group of friends and comics began performing Don't Spit the Water!, a weird, fun live game show. The show found its audience pretty quickly, and was the resident Saturday night show at The Playground Theater for 4 years.
In 2008, we had the opportunity to perform for Comedy Central on their development stage in Los Angeles. We pitched Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, and a couple of production houses. We signed an option deal with Syd Vinnedge, the guys who produce The Price Is Right, and a few other production companies around the world. While we earned a few almosts, we were never able to seal the deal and have the show picked up by a network.
So now we're taking matters into our own hands. We've been given a guarantee by Neal Sabin, the Executive Vice President of Weigel Broadcasting (The U, The U Too, Me-TV, Me-Too) that if we create a pilot, he will air it on TV. We just need to make sure it is of sufficient video/audio quality, and is not filled with curse words and naked ladies. He even said, "if it's any good, we'll run it twice!"
We've assembled the pieces to make this all happen. We have a great production company with cameras and crew standing by, and a great location to shoot, donated by the ComedySportz Theatre in Chicago. Now we just need the money to pay for it.
There's a long list of former Don't Spit the Water comics who've found great success on one of the coasts, including TJ Miller, Nick Vatterott, Robert Buscemi, Tony Sam, and Jared Logan. While our short term goal is to have our pilot aired, our long term goal is to create a venue for Chicago's amazing talent pool to bring their most experimental stuff to a TV audience without having to go to LA or New York.
If we can put all the pieces together and air our pilot, we're confident it will lead to some cool things for Chicago and its hard working comics. We hope you'll be a part of it, and help us make that happen.
Thanks for supporting local comedy, however you choose to do it!
