What if your hallucinations of monsters turned out to be real? Help us create the first 3 issues of this ongoing horror series.
Blackwood is an ongoing series that was written for anyone that’s a fanatic of the horror genre. This Kickstarter is to help us produce the first 3 issues. Each issue will have a beautiful wraparound cover and will be 22 colored pages in length. We're just finishing the first issue and need Kickstarters help to finish the other 2.
When this Kickstarter ends in just a few hours EVERY SINGLE BACKER WILL BE SENT 6 DIGITAL COMICS.
Everyone that has supported Blackwood will be sent free digital copies of the following Bleeding Ink comics in addition to whatever rewards they choose- Demigods #1, War Zone #1, Chapel #1, Patriot #1 and our 88 page horror comic, Sensory Distortion. That means if you back our project for as little as $1 you will receive all of these digital comics as well as Blackwood #1 once it is completed. That’s a total of 6 digital comics for just a buck! AND if we reach the higher goal of $9,500 all backers will receive a free digital copy of our comic, Valley of the Cougars. So you'll be getting 7 digital comics in addition to whatever reward you chose. If we reach $10,000 every Blackwood supporter that has chosen a physical reward will get a free hard copy of any one of our comics they choose. So PLEASE share this Kickstarter with others that love comics!

The Blackwood series tells the story of Kai Blackwood, a troubled soul that has been on anti-psychotics his entire life to battle his hallucinations of monsters. That is, until he discovers the hallucinations are real.
The boundaries between heaven, hell and earth are slowly breaking apart and the creatures from these other worlds are beginning to invade earth. As of now, the breaks are small but very soon both sides will be invading to battle for the souls of earths inhabitants. Kai Blackwood is one of the few with the power to stop the invasion.
Jacobson is a hard-nosed angel that has the unwanted job of saving Blackwood and finding the other humans that are able to stop the oncoming war. Quickly, a team is formed, each member having their own unique power. They must find the people and items that are able to stop the oncoming invasion before the creatures from the dark side shatter the boundaries between hell and earth.
Within Blackwood, there are dozens of tips of the hat to classic horror movies and comics. Any horror fan will pick up on these homages seen throughout the series.None of them are direct lifts but you see the influence. A hockey-mask that when worn makes you insanely strong and nearly impossible to kill. A set of blades that you wear along your forearm and when you cock your wrist back the blades flip and attach themselves to your hand, making it a Nightmare on Elm Street type glove. The Necronomicon from Evil Dead. Demons from The Gate. Weapons from Dead Alive. Items from Phantasm, Hellraiser. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre! With so many characters and weapons and with a writer that loves horror, you can bet you’ll see a lot of stuff you’ll love from horror films.
You can combine any of the rewards! Just back the project for the total of all the rewards you want. When the Kickstarter ends we'll send you out a questionnaire where you'll be able to tell us all the rewards you would like.
Every person that backs this project for a physical reward will get a Blackwood sketch included with their order. These are great looking, one of a kind sketches that Kavika drew while developing the characters and pages for Blackwood.
Kavika working away on a character concept.
Kavika has been drawing since he could hold a pencil. He had put off his dream of being a comic artist for 16 years to work as an artist in the video game industry. After 16 years of making video games, he is back pursuing his original dream with Bleeding Ink Productions. Kavika has had the fortune to work at Blizzard, EA, Black isle, on games such as Starcraft, Diablo, LOTR, C&C: Generals, Magic the Gathering and more (15 published titles). After some movie concept work, website design, apps, video games on all major platforms, storyboards, book illustration, he is throwing all this experience at comic: Blackwood.

"After running across Bleeding Ink and Jesse's work I could tell I had found something awesome. The characters and stories were alive, well thought out, and personal. These comics play like a gritty movie, mixing the fantastical with the aesthetics of Fight Club or a Tarantino movie. I had been in search of a gritty dirty comic story to sink my pencil into but was finding only derivative or insanely odd comic scripts from indie writers, till I saw what Jesse was writing and convinced him to give me some pages to illustrate as a test. The script was exactly what I wanted, that I didnt know I could get. It makes me work hard on my visual story telling abilities, emotion, life/death, action. It plays like a movie. Help us get Jesse's vast, rich world of Blackwood realized for everyone to enjoy for decades to come." -KAVIKA
My name is Jesse and I started Bleeding Ink Productions in February of 2012 because I love writing and producing comics. Bleeding Ink has been something I’ve poured all of my time and money into and that’s why I need Kickstarters help.
We are not a charity case, far from it. At Bleeding Ink we create hard-lined comics that stand out from anything you’ve ever read. Don’t back this project if you feel like you’re giving a donation. Back it because you want to read and support a comic book project that has a unique voice within the industry.
We've tried to keep the cost of each reward as low as possible and for many of the rewards we're making only a few cents more than it costs to produce the item. An example of this is the Blackwood hard comic and graphic novel.
One reason we're doing it this way is because we believe the comics sell themselves and more people that see our work, the more people will want to support our future projects. The other reason is that we'll get more backers and hopefully they'll tell their friends about this project in order for us to reach our goal. It would be amazing if we were able to surpass what we absolutely need so we can order a higher print order.
EVERY SINGLE CENT OF WHAT IS MADE FROM THIS KICKSTARTER WILL GO TOWARD PAYING THE ARTISTS THEN HELP PAY FOR PRINTING AND SHIPPING COSTS.
Bleeding Ink will not be making any profit from this Kickstarter. Our profit is that we have a finished comic. If we make the $10,000 goal that money will be used to order a larger print run of the comics and pay the artists for work on future issues in this ongoing series.
Here's an interview the writer, Jesse Grillo recently did on the Rockin' comics Podcast. He talks about Blackwood for most of the time. Please give it a listen. :-)

Feel free to post the below image wherever you like if you want to help spread the word about this Kickstarter. This image is currently being colored and will on the back of the Blackwood shirts and Sweatshirts. You can also get shirts and sweatshirts for War Zone and Chapel.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are risks with any Kickstarter but what I think sets us apart is that we've done several small Kickstarters in the past to help pay for part of the production on our other comic book projects. We have fulfilled rewards as promised and many of our supporters continue to support our new projects.
