Margaret and Bear first appeared on the page a little over a year ago as a passion project of mine, but it wasn't long after completing the first draft that I realized I wanted to share this story with others.
I was lucky enough to be inspired at an early age, spending my childhood surrounded by very strong female role models. As such, I learnt from an early age the importance of believing in oneself, dreaming big, and to turn those dreams into realities; "Enter Margaret" as Jen would say. Margaret has all of the qualities and values of a real life hero, with the ability to take on the entire world by herself if she wanted, but having the heart and the wisdom to know that it's a lot better doing it with people you love and respect beside you to share the ups and the downs in life.
This project has been over a year in the making, but I'd like to think that more accurately it's been formed over a lifetime, as the more I work with Margaret & Bear the more I realized how long these characters have been with me and how they've been drawn from those I admire most.
We are putting the last pieces of the puzzle together, and already have a phenomenal printing company just waiting to bring our story to YOU. This is a book that will make you smile, laugh, empathize and FEEL something when you pick it up and put it down.
The funds raised are going towards printing the books and making them the best they can be. Come join us for a bearwich (because bears hate sand, but everyone knows that)...
Risks and challenges
Like anything in life, there is always the risk of the unknown. We would like to think that the unknown is the only risk that we may have left to chance.
We have a very highly reputed printing company whose quality has been proven since they were established in 2004, and the ink that they use is child-friendly, eco-friendly and lead-free.
We have been working diligently with our graphic designer Joan Bowman, who is as excited and passionate about the project as we are.
All that's left is to put the final touches of the book together and send it off to print.
In between now and then, unforeseen delays in shipping and/or printing are possible, but we are confident that with our current timeline the books will be in our readers' hands in November.
