The North Valley Grimoire is an all new magic spy thriller, and I want to bring it directly to YOU, unfiltered, with all the bells and whistles that are only available through a crowdfunding campaign.
I was offered different opportunities to have the book published traditionally, but I opted to publish it myself, starting with Kickstarter!
This way I have the final edit without the need to compromise the story, and I can include all of the special bonuses and extras that would otherwise be impossible to include through a bookstore or Amazon.
You'll receive a signed, limited edition first printing of The North Valley Grimoire - and as I hit stretch goals, I'll have additional funds to make the book even more special, adding things like:
- foil stamping to the cover
- interior artwork
- and special goodies that I'll pack in with the books
This is the first and only printing of this edition with the exclusive cover, illustrations and more - it will never be available in stores or on Amazon!
* Every backer will have their name included in the back of the book!
There will be a Kickstarter exclusive cover that won't appear anywhere else! For THIS PRINTING ONLY, a David Nakayama special variant cover will be available.
D.NA is Marvel's hottest cover artist, with his work appearing on Ant-Man, Deadpool, Venom, X-Men and more.
Here are some portfolio samples:
The $30,000 CAD stretch goal has been met! There will be ten (10) full-page comic book illustrations added throughout the book, done by the award-winning artist of RAT QUEENS, Roc Upchurch!
The $40,000 CAD stretch goal has been met! Every shipped package will include limited edition stickers!
The $55,000 CAD stretch goal has been met! Every shipped package will include a limited edition bookmark!
At the $75,000 CAD stretch goal, every shipped package will receive a limited edition magnet!
Reviews from some of the biggest names in comics and the publishing world are already coming in for THE NORTH VALLEY GRIMOIRE!
“I love this book. Blake Northcott has seamlessly shifted genres and proven she’s as masterful in magic and fantasy as she was in superheroes and science-fiction. Don’t pick this up unless you’re prepared to not put it down.”
- Mark Millar (Writer of Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Marvel's Civil War, Old Man Logan)
"There is world-building going on all throughout fiction these days -- and then there is Blake Northcott taking it to another level. Telling the story of a magical conspiracy through the lens of teen adventure, The North Valley Grimoire is what would happen if James Patterson and J.K. Rowling had a baby and it grew up to be a best-seller."
- Scott Lobdell (Hollywood screenwriter of blockbuster Happy Death Day, Marvel Comics writer of Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor)
"From the first paragraph, The North Valley Grimoire grabs the reader. And once it takes hold, it refuses to let go. Successfully fusing a spy thriller and supernatural adventure is not easy, not without losing key elements that make both genres so entertaining, but Blake Northcott delivers in full, face-melting force, all while building an immersive world that you will not want to leave. She has a real winner on her hands here!"
- Cullen Bunn (New York Times bestselling author of The 6th Gun, X-Men Blue, and Deadpool Assassin)
"A razor sharp page-turner that seamlessly blends two worlds--a late 90s teen horror film, and a cat-and-mouse spy thriller where magic is a weapon. It's electric, and I've never read anything like it."
- Rees Jones (co-author of Royals, with the world's #1 selling author, James Patterson)
"Engaging, relevant and poignant! A deft combination of ancient magic and modern mayhem!"
- Dan Panosian (Spawn, Thor, Captain America)
“The North Valley Grimoire is like the tight flashlight beam preceding you into a basement where you’re sure you heard something loud and wrong but you can’t help but explore, no matter what awaits.”
- Adam Hughes (Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Gen13)
"Anyone that knows me knows I hate magic, but after The North Valley Grimoire I'm changing my opinion. I blame Blake Northcott."
- Jimmy Palmiotti (Harley Quinn, Power Girl)
"Blake Northcott is one of the bright and shining stars of comics and literature. Her stories are told in unique and interesting perceptive, and are wholly entertaining."
- Frank Cho (Hulk, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy)
"Horror has a compelling, new protagonist in Calista Scott, and a powerful, new voice in author Blake Northcott. Read this book...but do it with the lights on."
- Bryan Edward Hill (Writer at DC's Detective Comics, Hollywood scriptwriter of Ash vs. The Evil Dead)
Risks and challenges
One of the risks that any creative person runs into is late delivery. As a backer, there is nothing more annoying that backing a project, and waiting around to receive your product.
While my books have always been delivered on, or close, to the promised fulfillment dates, I wanted to take EXTRA precautions this time - the manuscript is already 100% FINISHED.
As soon as the campaign is over I will be printing the books, signing them, and mailing them out to backers.
The current target date for mailing out the packages is week 1 of September (about three weeks after the campaign is over).
The audio book will begin production in August, and I'm targeting an October release date.
All the books are going to be printed in America (a reliable printer in Ohio) to ensure both quality of the final product, and that they will be printed and delivered in a timely fashion.
I have had three previous campaigns on Kickstarter, where I crowdfunded a series of sci-fi/superhero books called ARENA MODE.
While the books were mailed out on or close to the promised delivery dates, the audio book for the 3rd campaign, FINAL EMPIRE, was delayed as I had to contend with recording artists quitting without notice. However, now that Canadians have access to Audible/ACX, any future audiobooks will be recorded by professionals hired through that service, and will be completed and mastered in a timely fashion.
The average turnaround time for an audiobook now will be approximately 6-8 weeks, including mastering!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
