We've Met Our Goal, 2 New Artists Announced

Congratulations everyone, 2 days ago we met our goal! Thank you to all of you who contributed and a special thank you to backers Justin and Kyle for their generous contributions to the project which enabled us to make it to 103 percent, 13 days ahead of schedule. Because we reached our goal before December 8th, everyone who contributes will be able to contribute an image to the packaging and everyone who backs the project before or on December 8th will be entered into a raffle to win 2 Mountain Goats tickets (or the cash equivalent, about $50). More details on that in the previous update, here.

Because we raised the $1500 early, any money we raise from here on out will go to making the project even better. To get it professionally mastered, we'll need about 1000 more dollars. (Any audio geeks out there got a favorite mastering engineer?) Anything we raise in addition to that will go to giving the artists a budget/stipend.

In addition, we have some news that we could not wait until Friday to share. As we listened to the available demos we've gotten so far, our panel of judges settled on two obvious choices: Jeffrey Lewis and Andrew Jackson Jihad.

Phoenix band Andrew Jackson Jihad are known nationwide for their energetic folk-punk and their DIY work ethic. Jeffrey Lewis has been praised by Will Oldham, Jens Lekman, and Jarvis Cocker for his songwriting, especially his literate, often absurd lyrics. In 2008, Lewis illustrated a “comic book press kit” for The Mountain Goats’ album Heretic Pride.

Jeffrey Lewis will perform "See America Right" and Andrew Jackson Jihad will cover "Alpha Rats Nest". We were going to wait till Dec 9th to announce a decision for one of the tracks, but we didn't expect to get two very clear winners so soon. Rather than making you (and us) wait, we thought we'd let you know right now.

For those who already submitted covers for these two songs, or were thinking of submitting covers, please consider submitting for one of the other songs. We'd still like to hear what you have to bring to these songs.

Thanks again for all the support you've already shown, I can't wait to see (and hear) how this thing turns out!
