THE ALGERNON FILES
A decade ago, BlackWyrm Games published the first Algernon Files book as a Superlink product for Green Ronin’s 1st edition of Mutants & Masterminds. The eponymous Algernon was the resident A.I. for a fictional team of superhuman champions and heroes, with the book presenting characters and locations aplenty for fans of the system to use in their own games.
Fans liked what they saw and a little while later BlackWyrm returned with a couple of Algernon Files books updating and expanding in the newly published 2nd edition of the game system. Again, fans liked what they saw and graciously said many nice things about the books.
Now, BlackWyrm has a brand new version of the Algernon Files ready to throw out into the world, this time tooled to work with the system’s spectacular 3rd edition.
But wait, there’s more.
Instead of just a single relatively small book with a small cross-section of characters and locations, BlackWyrm is actually starting a series of Algernon Files releases, of which the first two books (Volume 1: Abraxas to Arsenal of Democracy, and Volume 2: Artificer’s Guild to Blackheart) are already done and ready to go to print right now. If the series successfully gets off the ground, there are a couple of dozen more volumes to get us all the way through the rest of the alphabet, as well as several stand-alone supplements, all planned and in the works.
And this is where we need your assistance, fandom.
Your basic Comic Book game is a niche genre in a niche industry, and printing stuff and paying for good art can be all kinds of expensive. If you want to see what wonders BlackWyrm can work for the 3rd edition version of what fans have dubbed the “Algernonverse,” with text and stats from Aaron Sullivan (who created the Algernon Files and since then has written for lots of other M&M and other supers games) and with art from the likes of Alex Williamson (who’s worked on M&M for Vigilance Press and Battletech for Catalyst Game Labs) and Melissa Gay (whose work has adorned Evil Hat’s Dresden Files game, among many other things), then we need your help. Before we can dive into the full series, we have to actually get the first two books off the ground and into the waiting hands of happy fans, so we’re asking you to help us help you.

Here are some of the characters you can expect to meet in the first two books.
Take a gander through some of the layout, and download these sample characters, on the house.
From Volume 1, Apparition, the uncatchable thief.
Once we've hit our goal of $2,500, we'll unlock the stretch goal of $5,000 for book 2. As Aaron said, the book is also ready to go to press, and can get out to backers as soon as we hit that additional goal.
From Volume 2, Blackbone, the burn-at-the-stake supernatural hunter that makes house calls.
Risks and challenges
The books are written and edited, the artwork is turned in, and the layout is in the final tweaking stages. There's always a chance of a snag at the printer, shipper, or delivery phase.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
