LATEST NEWS! (scroll past news for full project description):
Armoured Syndicate is a unique new miniatures based board-game set in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Las Vegas in the early 22nd Century.
With much of the western US abandoned due to rising temperatures the corporations now own what remains of the great cities... using advanced mechs and drones to protect their salvage rights.
The Dead Crows are a group of Mexican mercenaries and gang members, hired by a syndicate of crime-lords to infiltrate the ruined city to undertake a number of daring heists... ruthlessly pursued by the Dromeda Corporation's sentries and drones.
Features of the game include:
- Scenario based core game with skirmish style 'free-play' option.
- 10 scenarios in the core rule book with more to be added through expansions and stretch-goals.
- 2 player games using the core rules with 3 or 4 player games using the expansions.
- Six X 10" square, double sided, premium printed card game boards + more scenario-specific boards in expansions.
- Unique cash-driven play system lets you allocate your funds to activate characters, bribe your enemies, bank your profits or invest in external assistance such as air-strikes and med-drops.
- 10 X premium quality, easy-to-assemble, resin character miniatures in the box with numerous add-on models and free extras unlocked in the stretch-goals.
The Armoured Syndicate game has been written by World renowned games designer Mark Latham who has worked on many of the most successful UK developed games of the last few years including 'Walking Dead - All Out War', 'Sedition Wars', 'Legends of the old west', 'Kings of war', 'Marvel superheroes miniatures game' and many others.
Once you have set up your game-boards and objective overlays as shown in the scenario.... it's time to play!
The game is all about money... at the start of each turn, after rolling to determine player priority, each player receives a 'salary' of poker-chip style 'credit tokens' into their 'liquid assets' account to the same points value as the models they are playing. The player with priority chooses whether to go first (meaning they must reveal their allocation of action points first but also get to activate first) or go last, allowing them to see what the other player/s are doing with their action points first.
The player going first then chooses to 'bank' up to 50% of their liquid assets in their secured account (this counts towards the final score to win the game) and can spend credits from their secured fund to buy a card from the 'acquisitions' deck, these are turned over to reveal external actions that can be saved and used when needed later in the game, such as air-strikes, med-drops and long range sniper shots from high-altitude drones. Finally they allocate the remaining liquid assets to their characters, placing up to three credits on each character card to allow them to perform up to three actions (move, shoot, loot, hack, bribe) during the turn.
Once all players have allocated funds, action begins and the player with priority activates their first model. Movement is done by 'zones' on the printed game boards and combat uses multiple dice (as specified by the weapon being used) and successful attacks deal 'injury' or 'damage' cards to the target (depending on whether they are a human, a robot, or a cyborg).
Whilst destroying enemies can make you money (and costs your opponent dearly), bribing, hacking and stealing your way through the game can often be more profitable!
Achieving the primary and secondary objectives set for your faction in the scenario brings big pay-outs to add to your profits but that doesn't always mean a guaranteed win!
The core game is primarily designed as a 2-player scenario-driven game with the winner of each scenario always being the player who has banked the most profit in the game. There will also be a skirmish-style 'free-play' option and new factions with the options to go up to 3, 4 or more players through the add-ons and stretch-goals.
The game has been play tested at 4 different gaming clubs as part of a 5-week tour and play-testing program with great feedback from all who had the chance to play. You can check out a play-test video of a full game of Armoured Syndicate here: VIDEO LINK
The game comes with over 175 printed items including the 6 premium quality game board sections, ten character cards, three card decks for injuries/damage and acquisitions along with 60 credit tokens and numerous other tokens and overlays for the game boards. The game also includes ten premium resin character miniatures.
Coming from a design and miniature painting background... the quality of the models that come with our games are one of our top priorities. We began manufacturing the first miniatures for Armoured Syndicate nearly 2 years ago and several have been on sale for over a year in order to prove our ability to create top-quality miniatures.
Our miniatures are designed in-house, then digitally sculpted by our team of world-class freelance sculptors, 3D printed at ultra-high resolution then moulded in the UK from high quality resin. They are all super-detailed yet extremely easy to assemble and come with a suitable sized plastic gaming base and a character card for use in the game.
Our miniatures are '28mm heroic scale' and therefore scaled to fit in with most miniature games on the market.
The boxed game includes two factions with 5 models per side. Many more additional characters and a full new faction will be available as add-ons and as stretch-goal items added free to certain pledge levels.
Our models can be simply assembled and spray coated and played with as they are... or look amazing when fully painted with standard acrylic miniature paints!
To expand and enhance your game from the very start we have a range of extra add-on items you can add to your pledge. As new add-ons are unlocked in the stretch-goals they will be added here.
To add an add-on to your pledge simply click on the 'manage' button next yo your pledge, then click 'Change your pledge' and manually add the value of the add-on/s you want to the total pledge amount. You will be asked to specify which items you added in the pledge manager after the campaign ends.
Every add-on miniature comes with a character card for use in the game!
More add-ons to come in the Stretch-Goals!
If we exceed our funding target we will be unlocking a massive array of amazing new miniatures and game enhancements to make this an even more awesome campaign!
Stretch-goal items marked 'ADD-ON' are available to be purchased by all backers (see add-ons above). Stretch-goal items marked 'EXECUTIVE' will be sent out FREE with all Executive level AND Director level rewards. Stretch-goal items marked 'DIRECTOR' will only be sent out free to 'DIRECTOR' level backers. Some of the free stretch-goal items will also be offered as add-ons.
Shipping costs will be added to your pledge amount through the pledge manager which will be administered through the website 'BackerKit' after the campaign ends. As this will be our fourth campaign we have established excellent low-cost shipping options for rewards and expect costs to be minimal.
Below are some estimated shipping costs for 'Executive' level rewards to different locations around the globe. 'Director' level rewards will be slightly more expensive to ship, rewards of just a few miniatures will be cheaper:
Armoured Syndicate is the brain-child of Ben Jarvis, a competition miniature painter, gamer and designer from Norwich on the east coast of England. Ben has been involved in miniatures and games since a friend dragged him into a high-street tabletop games shop at the age of 13 (over 25 years ago!).
Ben came back into the hobby to paint miniatures competitively in 2005 and won several awards including the UK Slayer Sword in 2009. Since then he has been working in the miniatures/game industry professionally for around 5 years, first launching his 'Mechabrick' LEGO-compatible mech combat game and then his 'Etch-Master' range of photo-etched brass detailing parts for 28mm miniatures.
As an artist, designer and illustrator, Ben has been responsible for creating Armoured Syndicate from scratch, including designing all of the characters, writing the backstory and creating some of the artwork. But the project has also used a LOT of external talent to get it where it is now!
All of our miniatures are digitally sculpted except one. The digital sculptors on this project have done an amazing job of turning Ben's sketches and diagrams into incredibly detailed and characterful 3D miniatures. The digital sculptors are:
Thomas Lishman, David Boydell, Dan Kelly, Frazer Barnard, Heriberto Valle Martínez
We have also been very lucky to have the talents of traditional mech-modeller/sculptor Fil Dunn to create the 'El Toro' mech for our line-up as a custom variant of his awesome 'Mako' mech design.
We have also, as mentioned above, had the world-renowned Mark Latham writing the game itself for us (with nudges and suggestions from Ben) as we wanted to be 100% sure that this game was going to play beautifully and offer something genuinely new and exciting.
Last but not least we have had a number of talented artists working on the box-art, our comic book and background/character art for the project, the list of artists includes:
Joel Carpenter (box art), Rik Hoskin (comic writer/project manager), Tom Creily (comic artist), Tom Garcia (comic colourist), Simon Bowland (comic letterer), Anna Kryczkowska (scenic art).
We would also like to give a massive thank you to all our friends in the miniatures/gaming industry for their support and encouragement during the development of this project and a special thank you to Oliver Thompson for his tireless and amazing work on all of our videos.
Risks and challenges
This is not our first crowd-funding campaign.
Having previously launched the 'Mechabrick' mecha combat board game three years ago and also run two successful campaigns for the 'Etch-Master' miniature detailing accessories range, as well as having helped or been involved with several other campaigns for other companies, we believe we have experienced most of the usual pitfalls of this sort of campaign and have found the right way to overcome them all.
We have used three factories in the UK and China in the past for manufacture of high-quality printed game elements and have these elements of the game sourced and priced so we know what the costs and timescales will be to get these produced and ready to ship.
We have been manufacturing the first few resin miniatures for this game for nearly 2 years and have a reliable UK manufacturing partner who is set up and has the capacity available ready to take on the production of miniatures for this project before the end of this year.
We have allowed more time than we believe we will actually need to fulfill this project but have built in at least double the expected 6-week shipping time required to get elements of the game from the far-east. Much of the game (including the miniatures) will be being manufactured in the UK so shipping delays should be minimal.
Future Support and Development:
Rather than being just a one-off board game we have already got miniature designs, ideas and work already underway on at least three further expansions for the game. We hope to support the game for many years with new scenarios, new miniatures and an ever expanding back-story.
