Ancient Astronauts is a 168 page hardcover graphic novel, hand painted entirely in watercolor. It's a blend of science fiction and fantasy, taking place on Plaine, a highly developed planet-nation.
Vincent Pompetti, a classically trained artist from Belgium, developed Ancient Astronauts over the course of 10 years out of a love for the science fiction genre. The first project entirely written and illustrated by himself, the book was first published in France, and is now translated into English.
The book is completely finished and ready for print, with a free 15 page preview available here. With your support, we will bring Ancient Astronauts to print.
"In the infinite cosmos are scattered millions of galaxies. Lost among them, a world similar to ours develops in its own solar system. On Plaine, a highly developed planet-nation, the opening reveals Onys, a young and daring archer."
Vincent Pompetti is an italian artist born in Liège, Belgium, originally from Pineto and Atri, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. He graduated from the St. Luc Institute of Fine Arts in 1998 with a specialization in graphic novels. Two years later he authored and published his first graphic novel with Glénat called Planète Divine, leading to a collaboration with the scenarist and graffiti specialist Tarek.
From that collaboration resulted several significant works including Sir Arthur Benton, and more recently The Gallic Wars and the pirate story, The Malouin. Both artists have invested in the independent publisher Tartamudo, with José Jover, and created the artist association known as Pegasus.
Vincent collaborates with the Urban Art Magazine “Paris Tonkar”, and simultaneously develops his career in painting and illustration, having exhibited his art in Switzerland, Canada, Italy, and mainly in France.
Andrew Benteau is the founder and primary translator at Black Panel Press. Since he was very young, he has loved drawing and has had a special interest in comic books.
After graduating with a business degree in 2014, Andrew traveled to France to work and study for one year while learning French. There, he learned about the French "bande dessinée" style of comics, and how it differed from what he had seen in North America.
In 2016, Andrew met with Vincent Pompetti to discuss the possibility of bringing his comics to North America. Shortly thereafter, Black Panel Press was formed with the mission of bringing exceptional graphic novels from all over the world to North American readers.
Your pledge will help us bring Ancient Astronauts to print version. Our plan is to start with a run of 1,000 copies. The majority of your pledge will be used to print a high quality hardcover of the book. The rest will be used to ship and market the book on other channels.
Thank you for your support!
