An "Impossible" journey...two brothers wanting one last adventure...behold the first 11 pages of...10,000 Miles.
One last adventure...
10,000 Miles is the 72-page tale of two brothers, Bryce and Chris, who are known as the "Impossible Kids". They've spent years using their incredible talents to do the "impossible", and it's gotten them a lot of fame. There's been nothing they haven't been able to tackle...until they turned 18.
For you see, life is about to separate them, like opposite sides of the country separate. The two can't fathom this separation.
Desperate to have one last hoorah, one of the brothers finds a book that gives him the inspiration for the last, and possibly greatest, adventure of their lives....
They're digging their way to China!
How far would you go to make your last moments together memorable?
For me, 10,000 Miles came to be because of a cartoon, something I actually reference in the story. In fact, it was Scooby-Doo that first put the idea in my head. No joke.
Time went on, and a contest for a publisher put me in a position to actually write it out. I thought about it for a long time, then wrote the script. It didn't get accepted, but the idea remained. After stopping my Guardians series and finishing volume 1 of my Home mini-series, I knew the time had come for 10,000 Miles to shine.
I call this a mix of a Disney/Pixar style children's book but in graphic novel style for good reason. After all, Disney/Pixar films are for kids, but teens, parents, heck, everyone can enjoy them, and that's what I wanted here.
But also, those films also tell a deep message, and that's what I wanted here. 10,000 Miles is about a challenge that every kid faces: Growing up.
We all have to do it (even me! I went through it!), and it's a struggle, and I wanted that to be apparent here. And I hope, that by the end of this story, if you're struggling with issues that Bryce and Chris have in their journey, that you are inspired by what they do and say, and that it helps you on your own journey. Because we all need a little help sometimes.
What Are You Funding?
At the time this is published, there will be 20 pages done (and the cover). You'll have read the first 11 of them (hopefully) on the way down here, and there's more that'll be posted as we continue on this Kickstarter.
So, since this is a 72-page book, you'll be helping fund not only the 52 pages left to be made, but helping me get the rewards out to you.
What Is My Goal?
Besides getting the book funded? I would love to get over 100 backers. It's been a goal of mine for a while now, and though I've gotten close in my Home campaigns (all of which were successfully funded), I never crossed it.
Truth be told, my biggest goal is to just get this book into the hands of as many people as possible. I really think this is a great story, and people have been telling me how great the art looks and I really want to see this get made in full.
So, this is where you come in, we got a lot of cool rewards, and I think you'd be surprised by some that we are offering. We got comics galore, a chance to be drawn into the comic, a special set of art prints, and more.
Check them out, see what calls out to you, and pledge if you can. Then please spread the word, every pledge counts in a campaign like this one.
The dreams of three kids are about to come true! Will you help make that happen?
...oh, and I'm the third kid. Obviously.
Wait, who is she? Isn't that the girl from the cover? Guess you'll have to pledge and find out!
About The Team
Todd Black - Writer/Creator - Wait, you want to know about me? Well, I'm an indie comic and book writer. I currently (not including 10,000 Miles) have 25 comic issues made under my name and the BlackMagicWolf Productions banner. I even have a novel out on Amazon featuring my take on the Sherlock Holmes universe. To me, writing is a pleasure, and I love telling stories about characters, especially ones that have deep personalities, which is definitely something I have done here with 10,000 Miles. Even when this book is done, I'll still be writing, because that's what I love to do.
Alex Garcia - Artist - I met Alex on my very first comic book, Guardians. He was the colorist and letterer for it. Then, when my main artist dropped out the second issue of Guardians, he offered to pick up the slack, and he did! We made 19 issues of Guardians together, and I always can count on him for special projects. Initially, he wasn't going to be the artist for 10,000 Miles, because I wanted a specific visual style. But, I needed an artist, so I tried him out, and 20 pages (and a cover!) later, I couldn't be happier.
It's our honor to show you the work we've done for 10,000 Miles, and we hope you'll help us complete the books so we can it to our library of titles we've made.
I love the characters and art of 10,000 Miles, and I happen to know people love to draw! So, if you have a piece of art you'd like to show me of Bryce and Chris, message me in the comments! I'll post it here (with your name in the caption) for all to see! Check out some of the pieces some people have made!
Risks and challenges
The only risk I see is making sure we hit our Kickstarter goal. As I've said, we've already gotten 20 pages done, this will fund the remaining 52. Once everything is set funding wise, me and Alex will be doing our best to get the rest of the pages done and lettered so we can get the book to you!
I've had 5 successful Kickstarter, completely making my Home miniseries. I know what it takes to fulfill the promise of a Kickstarter after getting funded. And I promise, if you fund us, you'll get everything you pledged for.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
