The harsh noise band, Black Leather Jesus, is planning our first European tour for May 2014 to celebrate their 25th year. Struggle Session and Svartvit are opening acts on the tour.
We are planning shows for the cities:
May 9, 2014-London, England
May 10, 2014-Manchester, England
May 11, 2014-Glasgow, Scotland
May 12, 2014- Newcastle, England
May 14, 2014- Toulouse, France
May 15, 2014-Paris, France
May 16, 2014-Montreuil, France
May 17, 2014-Hamburg, Germany
May 18, 2014-Amsterdam, Netherlands
May 19, 2014-Kortrijk, Belgium
venues TBA/cities are subject to MINOR changes.
This is an opportunity for fans to assist this large group with transportation expenses in Europe. The money we are attempting to raise will be applied to car rental, fuel, transportation from the UK to the mainland and incidentals related to ground transport.
Risks and challenges
Any tour poses challenges for a large group like Black Leather Jesus. A tour of countries other than our own poses even more substantial challenges, ones which we must carefully plan to offset and anticipate.
First there is the issue of working with unfamiliar promoters in unfamiliar cities. We have known, reliable contacts with whom we have worked in one way or another in many of the cities we plan to visit. A few are new places and people who have contacted us in these initial planning stages. We hope they will promote the shows to bring out enough people, but there is never any way to check that. Our foremost concern, however, is assurance that the promoters and venues are experienced with harsh noise, and are prepared to accommodate the kind of set we play.
Secondly, paying for transportation is only one risk-factor in getting around. Put simply, we are strangers who may or may not speak the language of the land driving from place to place on a relatively tight schedule. We will be at the mercy of road atlases, city maps and the kindness of strangers to find our way around. It may sound funny, but being lost is no laughing matter, and we won't have an option to use our phones to re-route as we have on US tours.
Finally, and most importantly, this funding drive is intended only to pay for transportation and incidentals once we arrive. The individual members of the group are 100% responsible for paying their way to get there. That is a major up-front expense and, while we are hoping the maximum number of members will be able to raise enough for their flights, and to sustain themselves on the road, we cannot promise how many will make it. We can promise that no matter how many of us take the stage each night, this Black Leather Jesus tour will be a once in a lifetime event of full-power harsh noise.
