The great Black Death has come to you in the Middle Ages, ravaging everyone you know. A Plague Doctor visited, promising help, but what did he truly bring?
The Carrier is an expansion to the original game, and introduces new characters, new abilities, and chain reactions.
The Carrier can play 5 to 6 people with one copy, and scales up to 7 to 12 players with 2 game copies. It takes just 10 minutes to play.
You’ve heard rumors that the Plague Doctor's path now leads to your village. Wherever he goes, his Ravens follow. And now, they carry the infection as well.
The Carrier is a quick, strategic, secret role, semi-cooperative social game. One of the party is a Plague Doctor, spreading the Bubonic Plague. The Villagers need to find and rid themselves of the evil doctor before they succumb to the greatest plague in history.
You can now grab the original game along with this expansion. It will come with all cards and components as the original (even stretch goal cards).
The Plague Doctor's ravens inspired the name of the expansion: The Carrier.
Now, one or more Villagers can begin with one of the Plague Doctor’s ravens in their hand. The malevolent Raven carries with it an Infection. As a Villager, if you receive an Infection card of any kind from the Plague Doctor, you MUST pass your Raven card on your next turn. (The Raven now infects a villager, unless that Villager receives a vaccination).
Let’s hope your fellow Villagers are prepared.
Check out the new characters in the The Carrier expansion:
The Plague Doctor's experience has made him more powerful. He carries a new infection card which infects a villager for two consecutive rounds, should the player be lucky enough to be vaccinated in the first instance.
His Ravens, the Carriers, also carry infections. As a Villager, if you've been passed an infection card from the Plague Doctor, you MUST now pass a Carrier card the next round! These cards infect your fellow Villagers, and have varying immediate or delayed infections.
There are 3 new Raven cards which can be held by Villagers, each infecting other Villagers either immediately, with a 1-round delay, or a 2-round delay. A Villager will typically hold just one Raven card in their hand.
This Raven is happy to spread the Bubonic Plague to a new victim. New raven art by the one and only Lindsey Kustusch.
We wouldn't leave you defenseless, however. The stealthy Huntress is exceptional, so she should be able to strike down the Plague Doctor's ravenous ravens. (If you hold this card, you are immune to the Ravens).
Your Blacksmith has proven to be resilient to infection. He'll be able to live through one infection, even without a vaccination.
One of your citizens, quite spiteful however, has turned on you and is joining forces with the traveling Plague Doctor. He wins if the Plague Doctor wins.
A couple of villagers have also promised help with a chance of healing. They give a chance not only of infection, but also vaccination. This card introduces an additional dice into the game, giving vaccinations.
And there remains one other who will provide sanctuary from the ravishes ahead. One way to escape: hide. (If you hold this card, you don't have to roll the dice if you don't want to).
One of the town elders is weak, so a vaccination won't help him at all.
Finally, you've also heard rumors of a powerful new apothecary from the forest, and of her ability to vaccinate others on multiple occasions with just one visit. Will she be able to help? Only time will tell.
You’ll also receive the new Silent Villager miniature, which moves to a new player each round. Whichever player the Silent Villager sits in front of, that player is unable to make a guess as to whom the Plague Doctor is in that round.
When the miniature moves to a new player for the following round, you would finally be free to make a guess, should you so choose, and if the cards allow it.
You’ll also have the new dice to roll. The previous die included only “safe” and “infected” results. The new die has 3 of its 6 sides as vaccinations. So should you think a fellow villager is becoming infected from a Plague Doctor, and you are unable to save them with a vaccination, you now can give them a chance…but it carries the chance of an infection as well.
Are you new to The Carrier, or a veteran? Either way, you can grab the full game plus the expansion, or just the expansion. The full game will come with all of the original Stretch Goal cards, as you are now backing the game as well. Thank you!
With these new Carrier expansion cards, you’ll be able to create your own decks and change players’ abilities as desired. If you want only a few players to carry a Raven card, you can do that. If you want to add another Silent Villager, the Blacksmith, a Healer, an Apothecary, the Huntress, a Weak Villager, a Sinister Villager, the Priest, or any combination of any of the cards, you have the freedom to do so.
Add these cards to your existing Contagious Villagers, Double Dice, and other cards to make some fun new starting decks.
Having the freedom and ability to change the game will be exciting, and we’ve created a new Facebook group just for that purpose: Share your favorite creations with others and talk about The Carrier game, including the expansion: https://www.facebook.com/groups/281524039004410/
Have you come up with some amazing starting hands for Villagers? Are the Villagers in your game having a tough time? Manage your hands so that you can give each side a chance at winning. And see what others are doing too. It’s never been this fun being Infected.
Ever seen a Plague Doctor dice rolling tray? We're happy to announce we are partnering with Dog Might on an exclusive rolling tray, made especially for fans of Infected.
The rolling tray is made of Flaming Birch with Dog Might's amazing "Demon Blood" finish, and black felt. It's a luxurious rolling tray that you can use for any game where you need to roll the bones! - Just add on the appropriate amount shown below to your pledge, which includes shipping to your part of the world.
This Plague Doctor rolling tray is only available through this Kickstarter, and you won't be able to get it at Dog Might or anywhere else after that. Dog Might will personally craft and ship each of these.
The Carrier is a quick playing social deduction game set during the times of the Bubonic Plague.
Players will try to vaccinate their fellow villagers in their quest to gather information and protect each other, while finding the Plague Doctor. If you are the Plague Doctor, you’ll try to spread the disease as quickly as possible so that you are the lone victor.
Here’s the catch: no one knows who anyone else is.
Do you have what it takes to survive the worst of the Bubonic Plague, or will you become The Carrier?

Why do we need you to pledge on Kickstarter?
1. Without your pledge, the game won't exist! (That's big).
2. When you buy the game now, we can manufacture the game in a higher print run and add more cool stuff into the game.
3. This may be your only chance to buy the game!
4. You can infect your friends, in a good way.
Is this game exclusive to Kickstarter backers?
- Yes, probably. The expansion probably won't go into retail, aside from any stores who buy the game now on Kickstarter. So this is essentially the only place where you'll be able to guarantee yourself the expansion or the base game. If there are a few copies left over when printing, there might be a few available at conventions or via Amazon USA, but I wouldn't count on it! :)
Risks and challenges
I've produced many other projects on Kickstarter, the social game Emotional IQ, and critically acclaimed playing card decks like AVES, British Monarchy, and Romeo and Juliet. The art and sculpture for the game are already complete, and we already have approval to manufacture the game! Shipping is also good to go, and there are no extra taxes due to the game being under the VAT pricing threshold. There is always the risk of another Bubonic Plague breaking out, which could affect the timeliness of the game being produced, but in all likelihood, everything will be on time. I'm always here to answer questions! - Bryan Sloan, Black Forest StudioLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
