How much of what you say is actually comprised of your words?
Science tells us that the delivery of our language changes based upon what we are saying. If we are happy, our face and tone deliver our words happily. If we are disgusted, our micro expressions reflect this. But what happens when we deliver a sentence that doesn’t match our emotion? Play Emotional IQ and find out!
Emotional IQ is a hilarious new party game for 2 players on up to party size groups. It’s easy to learn and easy to play. There are 2 types of cards: the Emotion Cards, and the Sentence Cards. You’ll choose 1 card from each stack and then deliver the sentence aloud for everyone to hear.
Other players will have to guess which Emotion you are using. Here’s the catch – no one except you knows which Emotion card you drew, and you only get 1 shot at your delivery.
So how do you say, “Chocolate ice cream is amazing" in your best Disgusted voice?
“That guy just sneezed all over you" in a voice full of Happiness?
After you deliver your Sentence using a random Emotion, your team must guess which of the 30 Emotions you used. (They'll get to use the list of Emotions provided with the game). Good luck!
There are 6 basic Emotions known to humans: Anger, Disgust, Fear, Happiness, Sadness, and Surprise. But how many more Emotions do you feel every day? And how do you deliver a Sentence when the Emotion doesn't match it at all? Will your brain spontaneously combust?
I selected 30 Emotions that you'll need to deliver for Emotional IQ. With the different Sentences included in the game, there are thousands of possible combinations of Emotions and Sentences.
Emotional IQ starts with a lot of cards in the game (110), and due to economies of scale in manufacturing, additional cards will be added into the game coinciding with the amount pledged. There are stretch goals to add MORE cards to the game, without increasing the amount you pledged. :) I'd love for the number of cards to increase to 150, 180, 210, and dare I say it, 240. By sharing the project, you'll end up with more cards in the final game. :)
It was really important to capture the Emotions in the art for the game. Instead of simply writing the word for the Emotion on the card, all of the 30 different Emotions were remarkably illustrated by talented artist Roman Shipunov.
Roman is a gifted artist, with an amazing talent for illustrating characters that fit perfectly into this game. More of Roman's work can be found online at https://www.behance.net/shipunov - I am so excited to have Roman illustrate this project.
There are lots of great reasons why this is a great party game:
Amazing illustrations - Tons of fun - Acting Class - Improv - Conducting science experiments of your brain versus your words - Teaching Emotions to people - Comedy Clubs and Troupes - Can play quickly or for as long as you want to - Thousands of different combinations from the Sentence and Emotion cards - Extremely easy to learn - Can use as kindling if you need to start a fire and you are out of paper.
Some party games have 24 moving parts. For Emotional IQ, you draw 1 Sentence Card and 1 Emotion Card, and let people do the rest. But what cards will you draw?!?!?
You can make up home rules, like in many party games. Although it’s fun to choose teams and have your teammates guess what Emotion is being used by one of the team members each round, there are more gameplay possibilities.
The number of people in the game can be from 2 to a bunch. The team just needs to talk together to guess the Emotion used (cards listing the 30 different Emotions illustrated are provided with the game).
An enormous amount of time, thought, and effort went into choosing the 30 Emotions for the game, and here they are: Anger, Anticipation, Apathy, Attraction, Awe, Bashful, Boredom, Compassion, Confidence, Confusion, Contempt, Contentment, Disappointment, Disbelief, Disgust, Embarrassment, Fear, Frustration, Happiness, Horror, Jealousy, Love, Panic, Paranoia, Pity, Pride, Rage, Relief, Sadness, Surprise. Each emotion has its own unique illustration.
Why should you pledge via Kickstarter and receive the game now? Because as a Kickstarter backer, you are part of the community who brings the game to life. You should also be rewarded by receiving the game before anyone else and should be the first to have and play it.
Each time you play Emotional IQ, you’ll deliver different Emotions with different Sentences. So how much of what you say is actually comprised of your words? Pledge now for the game, and we’ll send you a copy.
Emotional IQ has friendly shipping in the USA and EU (meaning you won't pay extra taxes), and we will ship worldwide through various fulfillment centers.
Emotional IQ game design by Bryan Sloan.
The characters (emotions) are illustrated by Roman Shipunov.
Video and graphic design by Josh McDowell.
Josh has been incredible to work with. His talent is evident, as you can see in the video, and his graphic design on the box is awesome.
Roman's talent for illustrations is unbelievable. He completely captured each emotion through the characters you see here.
Both Roman and Josh are amazing to work with, and I can't tell you how impressed with both of them I am.
- You can also ADD-ON an Art Book for Emotional IQ. The Art Book will contain all 30 of the Emotions (no sentences) from Emotional IQ, and will be printed saddle-stitched at approximately 5 inches by 7 inches on quality paper. It's a great way to flip through the Emotions, especially if you love the art, want to support the game, or even use the Art Book to play the game while making up your own Sentences. You can select the pledge tier with the Art Book, or just add it on to your existing pledge for $10.
Please show me your best Sentence with a random Emotion by uploading a short video online and using #EmotionalIQ and your chosen #Emotion - Looking forward to seeing your video clips. I'll share the best ones I find. ;)

Risks and challenges
There aren't too many risks involved with manufacturing a game. I've produced the critically acclaimed AVES Playing Cards and British Monarchy Playing Cards, also via Kickstarter. I use manufacturers and printers with a proven background of great work and fulfillment. If any issues arise, I will continue to be transparent and keep everyone informed along the way. I expect the game to be manufactured quickly and in your hands so you can measure each other's Emotional IQ very soon.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
