Black Cat BBQ is my dream, Phil Martin, a regular guy who knows how to cook great bbq. I started cooking BBQ at the age of 12, under the tutelage of my dad, Melvin Martin and my Uncle Joe Smith . After years of prodding from friends and family, I started a catering company in 2017, Black Cat BBQ. In June of that same year, Black Cat BBQ was accepted to become a vendor at the prestigious Beverly Hills Farmers Market. Over the next 2 years, we served customers at the market, at their places of business, and in their homes. We've served regular folks, just grabbing a quick lunch to celebrity chefs. As well, in that time we have really tightened up our recipes and processes. After a recent health inspection, one of the inspectors said to me "you should really open a restaurant, you have a great operation". Upon hearing this, we knew we were ready to open up shop!
Our goal is to open and operate our first, fast-casual restaurant, in Hollywood, CA. Our restaurant will be unique in that we will specialize in legit Southern BBQ. We’ve learned from running a pop-up food booth at the Beverly Hills Farmers Market since June 2017, that this area is completely underserved.

We will do our absolute best to meet and exceed your expectations. In the past 2 years, we have served over 5000 customers, and all of this cooking has been done by 1 man. With the help of a staff, will take our current business and scale it up, so that we can serve even more happy customers.
The restaurant business is difficult. Period. We understand that and we're not afraid of the work, dedication, heart and soul that this will take to be successful. We face numerous obstacles from finishing construction and complying with city codes to making the space feel like home. Then, once our doors are finally open, we need to meet and surpass the needs and expectations of our customer. The only reason we think we have any business being in the restaurant business is because of the continuous stream of positive feedback and countless "word of mouth" customer referrals from YOU. We believe we've gotten to this place because we CARE about our food - what we make & how we make it. BBQ is in our blood and we want to share our love with the world.
We have found a great location in the Gower Gulch Plaza, located in the heart of Hollywood. This location gets great foot traffic, being as it is surrounded by office buildings, film studios, corporate offices, and apartments. There are close to 250,000 people living within 3 miles of this location.
To secure this location, we will need $25,000. The rest of the funding to do construction, purchase equipment and furnishings, and to get us through the first year of business, will come from an SBA loan and personal savings.
