Who We Are
Artists and outdoor enthusiasts who've pooled our talents to produce adventure-ready goods for urban and wilderness exploration.
Feel free to get nosy. Check out our project goals, products, design aesthetic and values below.
We're already a viable small business with a profitable line of made-to-order leather goods. This project is about creating a new line of dry goods, while scaling up our ability to produce high-quality goods quickly.
If our project is funded, we'll be getting our giddy, leather-worn hands on:
- Our own laser printer. No. Not the kind you printed reports on in high school. This kind cuts leather quickly and precisely. Currently we rent time on one. If we had our own - cue maniacial laugh - we could take over the world, or at least make stuff a lot faster.
- If we exceed our goal, we'll invest in more tools that will help us expand and deliver products faster. Speaking of products...
You'll be the first to enjoy this collection of new products, but the way we build stuff, this gear is going to be around a long time.
Materials and Warranty
Using natural techniques, our canvas and leather goods work and play as hard as you do.
Canvas - Impregnated with a wax-based, water-repelling finish, our canvas keeps your gear safe and dry so you can adventure without fear.
Leather - We offer three colorways for our leather products (tan, brown, black). All leathers are vegetable tanned here in the USA.
A healthier process for the planet we love to explore, vegetable tanning also leads to leather that looks better and better as it ages.
We're so confident in our leather that we offer a...

Our Design Aesthetic
Black Anchor Workshop is located in the gritty port city of Tacoma, WA. And our environment definitely informs our craft. When our city’s blue-collar grit and artistic verve slam into each other awesome things happen. Our design aesthetic – rugged, simple, functional, beautiful – mirrors the city that we love.
Function + Durability
We assume you’re going to go outside at some point. We hope you’ll take a hike or climb a rock. So we build our goods with function and durability in mind, which means they’ll stand up to your adventures – and stand the test time.
Environment + Beauty
Our leather working employs natural, environmentally friendly processes like vegetable tanning. This process also makes leather age beautifully. So hopefully one day your Black Anchor Workshop wallet or belt will go to your great grandson, not to a landfill.
Community + Creativity
Our business is a collaboration between a community of friends, some right here in Tacoma, others across the country. We believe that we’re smarter and more creative together.
