BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION - Isometric Post-apocalyptic Adventure
BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION is an isometric, post-apocalyptic adventure game. Different from the dystopian environments of STASIS and CAYNE, the studio embarks on a fresh but evocative environment to whet any adventure gamers' appetite.
Explore this futuristic wasteland to discover villages, destroyed cities, and uncover the secrets of strange and abandoned technology. The never before seen, African, post-apocalyptic setting opens up a menagerie of bizarre creatures and vibrant characters, alongside a new world inspired by Sub-Saharan flora and fauna. But beware, newcomers are either revered or hated.

1980 saw the Penrose appear without warning or fanfare. One day the sky was empty, and the next it was filled by an impossibly shaped monolith.
Governments laid claim to this magnificent structure and assembled an investigation team to learn about its origin and purpose.
Penrose technology was reverse engineered, accelerating our understanding of physics, materials and computing by centuries. Mankind hurtled forward on an alternative historical trajectory.
The world rejoiced...
Discovered at the very heart of the Penrose, a terminal revealed an unencrypted line of text: “I WILL FIX THIS. MARK LESLIE”.
Desolation would ensue...
Mark Leslie is a problem solver. He often tries to find the best of a bad situation. While Dr. Leslie was an avid outdoors man before his accident, he now spends most of his time behind a computer screen.
Don Leslie joined the Marines at a tumultuous time in world conflict, but his stubbornness and perseverance during the Vietnamese offensive earned him the rank of Master Sergeant. A family visit resulted in a horrific event that saw the Leslie family torn apart.
Effectively retiring from service, Don was awarded a post at the Penrose facility to manage international personal security.
POOCH is a forward reconnaissance drone, largely augmented by Penrose based technology. Her primary role is intelligence gathering in inhospitable regions. Her logical approach to situations can be frustrating to some.
Having assisted Brian Fargo (FALLOUT, THE BARDS TALE & TORMENT : TIDES OF NUMENERA) on the visual aesthetic of WASTELAND 3, we want BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION to be something that you have not seen before in a post-apocalyptic game.

We are using photogrammetry to capture the beauty of Africa. In this process, we take hundreds of photographs of a scene or object and, then using specialized software, we generate 3D models and textures from the photos themselves.
Every screen in BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION has a real piece of Africa in it - most often due to changing winds and ocean tides it is something that will only ever exist in our game.
Classic science fiction films still hold up today because of their extensive use of real locations and miniatures.
With BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION we want to capture the feeling of true science fiction through the use of intricately painted miniatures also captured with photogrammetry.
A post apocalyptic world gives us many incredible opportunities to work with scale models. We can explore an decrepit battleship, hulls of long abandoned cargo planes and urban graveyards of rusted cars... All the elements we so love about the post apocalyptic genre.
By aiding us in the crowd funding of BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION we would like to reward you with an array of goodies.

We had such an awesome time creating STASIS together with the Kickstarter community that we wanted to do it again!
Using Kickstarter will mean that we do not need to turn to a publisher for capital to produce BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION it also allows us direct access to a community of people who want this to be made.
We need you!
The funds raised will allow us to work full time on BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION. In conjunction with the crowdfunding, we will also self fund any development shortfall.
We are all-in!
The Brotherhood is an indie studio lead by brothers Christopher and Nicolas Bischoff and is currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. They have almost two decades of experience managing large scale design projects and more recently the crowd-funded games STASIS and CAYNE.
The Brotherhood is also working with inXile Entertainment on Wasteland 3 which was recently successfully funded at $ 3.2 Million - LINK

Risks and challenges
Games cost a tremendous amount of money to make. However, as we proved with STASIS, we could delivery a great product in budget. We are also co-funding DESOLATION and have access to further investment money should they it be needed.
A great unknown in game development is the time needed to complete the project. Sometimes games need more time to be polished and play tested and we hope to avoid this by carefully planning our completion timeline. We will communicate openly with backers as we did on the STASIS Kickstarter to make sure they know what we are doing.
