Birdcage Bottom Books is passionate about promoting compelling handmade comics. We don't have one unifying theme, tone or drawing style we champion but rather search for comics that are personal and varied.
This year, Birdcage Bottom Books is hoping to introduce some incredibly talented cartoonists flying under the radar to a wider audience. By pre-ordering through this Kickstarter campaign, you'll both ensure these publications see the light of day and save money! This is also your chance to get custom artwork, original comics page art, exclusive mini-comics and more (scroll down to read more about the rewards and see photos/samples).
Since many of these artists may be unfamiliar to you, we're providing sample chapters or pages for each in the links below (click the image or title).
APRIL RELEASES (to debut at MoCCA Fest):
Eva Müller “In The Future, We Are Dead” In the opinion of the author, Eva Müller, punk is dead but the attitude is still her favorite. She cries over Adele songs but later is too drunk to fuck. She is afraid of death, but can´t stop drawing him constantly. Driven by contradictions like these, she created a 160 page graphic novel, “In The Future, We Are Dead”.
An elderly woman dies lonely. After a long time, brother and sister meet again at the father’s funeral. A punk girl finds out that she is not immortal. Very personal death stories have been composed by the author, which also reflect her own death fears.

Risks and challenges
Our main challenge is funding the printing for these comics!
Besides being in business for a decade, we've run several successful Kickstarter campaigns, so we know what we're in for. We know how to handle printing as well as shipping large quantities of comics and have the supplies to do so.
Many of the comics are completed or near completion. The three comics to be released in April are already finished (although we may end up re-lettering Eva Müller's book) and just need to be set up for pre-press. We will continue to check in with the artists who are still working and make sure progress is being made (and post updates with new pages every so often).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
