GOOD NEWS! As of 5/21, we were able to open up another round of 500 Basecamps with the Carrying Case reward! If you have backed us prior to 5/21 and were not able to get a case, don’t worry, we’ll honor your pledge and get one out to you.
We are considering designing a carrying case to sell at retail, but your best bet is to get in on the latest round for the BaseCamp with Custom Kickstarter Case (which will be FREE. The case at retail will require a separate purchase).

The BaseCamp will charge your smartphone (or flip phone), GPS, LED lights and headlamps, your GoPro, or even tablets.

With a strong fire, 30 minutes of charging can provide 5 hours of talk time, 5 hours of video playback, or 20 hours of audio.

Ever started a small campfire? Then you’re off to a good start! We recommend using small pieces of kindling and some firestarters (included with BaseCamp) to get a nice flame going. Then, work your way up to bigger pieces of wood as your fire grows.

BaseCamp is designed to burn solid biomass only, like sticks, twigs, firewood, pinecones, wood chunks, etc. The BaseCamp is a fun and efficient way to cook with wood. Our unique technology allows you to use less wood while still maintaining a strong fire. Like any fire, a good fuel source is the key to starting it correctly so you want to make sure you have good dry fuel that is the right size in diameter (we recommend not going bigger than 1.5” in diameter).

No. It is strictly intended for outdoor use only.

Nope, that’s not how our model works. The best way to get HomeStoves out into the world for long-term use is to build local markets that can support the education, communication, and training that comes along with a brand new product. We have three retail programs right now in India, Ghana, and Uganda, and are constantly working on ways to create a bigger impact.
However, when you support us on Kickstarter or through a CampStove purchase, you are enabling us to keep the lights on at our office and continue our mission. Revenue generated by our outdoor recreational users allows us to invest in new core technologies that we then turn into new products in both developed and emerging markets – we call it Parallel Innovation.

Yes, you can use our KettlePot on top of BaseCamp when you flip the lever to the BOIL setting. We also have new products coming out in the future that will be compatible with BaseCamp.

Yes! You can use the BaseCamp with your own cookware, kettles and devices. It is not limited to the BioLite Product family.

The CampStove is not for sale through Kickstarter, but it is available on our main website, www.biolitestove.com, along with our KettlePot and Portable Grill.

With BaseCamp, the grill-to-boil lever allows you to either concentrate or disperse the flame so you can boil/sauté with pots and pans or grill directly on top of the grate. When boiling, the grill grate serves as a good balancing surface and protects the lever.

Clean up is easy. Simply remove top grate and flame spreader, clean with a wire brush and dry thoroughly. Clean out the ash from the burn chamber for proper airflow when necessary.
The instruction manual that comes with BaseCamp will have more details on proper use, storage, and maintenance.

Check out the video at the top of our campaign page. At the 1:48 mark, we outline every update we made to create the BaseCamp.

Nope. The HomeStove is designed to meet a range of specific needs for emerging markets that still cook on open fires daily.
The BaseCamp is specially tailored for emergency preparedness and outdoor recreation. We took the benefits of the BioLite CampStove and extend it to larger groups of people who want to be cooking in the outdoors together. We also designed the BaseCamp with increased power to meet the increase of outdoor gear’s charging requirements and provide more on-demand power when you need it. We incorporated more portability to the BaseCamp to facilitate a fun cooking experience and help you get cooking more easily and quickly.
