We are a company specialized in the sale and assembly of towbars, mainly for electric vehicles on the Norwegian market. Since entry into market of the Tesla Model 3, many customers have been asking us about the possibility of installing that towbar on their cars. Unfortunately, the original tow hitch for this car is only available as an addition when buying a new car and the other solutions are not good enough for us. Mainly due to low esthetic appearance and a poor corrosion protection, which is essential in Scandinavia. We´ve decided to design our own towbar brand - Biltec and produce a product that will be at least as good as the original or even better.
The goal of our project is to provide an alternative towing solution for Tesla that combines high-quality products, innovative solutions at a competitive price. Greater towing capacity of 1200kg.
Our towbars are equipped with high quality, detachable vertical automatic system. They do not require cutting visible part of the bumper. After disassembling the towbar is completely invisible.
Plug&Play wiring harness
Each towbar is supplied with a plug & play wiring harness. It does not require cutting wires in the car's electrical system. All connections are made with connector plugs identical to those that already exist on the car. Wiring kit supports trailers with standard bulbs and LED lamps. It is 100% compatible with Tesla car systems.
Our products are designed in such way that they do not require modification of the car and fit into the original assembly points. The mounting beam has high quality anti-corrosion protection and powder coating. They are prepared for many years of use, even in difficult weather conditions.
Towbars already in the prototype phase, undergo very rigorous laboratory tests. The mechanical test consists in testing the strength of the hitch and beam in 2,000,000 cycles. Also, quality at the production stage is constantly supervised to maintain the certified standard. As a result, the product meets the highest European quality and safety standards (E20) and it is road legal.
Risks and challenges
The towbar homologation process is long and challenging. If the prototype fails on the homologation tests, we will have to redesign and deliver a new sample for the test which may create a delay.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
