A tragic love story of artist and muse.
Our Project is about the human body and fashion, told in blatantly frank, erotic, and beautiful images, between an artist and his lover.
A love story...
It begins with a milliner from New York and a photographer from Phoenix, Arizona.
Heather's story: I grew up in New York, a shy academic who veered off course to study art in college, which led to a major in architecture. By the time I graduated [summa cum laude] from Fordham University, I didn't know where my happiness lay but I knew it wasn't in architecture. After several millinery classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I left to start my eponymous brand...too naive and inexperienced to fully grasp the struggle ahead.
Seven years later, I'm still surprised that a socially awkward, reclusive girl could make a name for herself based solely on her work and word of mouth by those who believed in her enough to speak the words she herself could never give voice to. This small homegrown label would expand to not only be known for a varied range of headpieces, but for body cages that have been photographed in Vogue Italia, Interview, Vogue Korea, Vogue China, V, etc.
Despite the professional accolades, I still maintain a quiet existence; happiest working in my studio. Since being with Billy, he has drawn me outside of my private little bubble to show a beauty that he sees in me that I never believed I possessed.
Billy's story: I grew up in Phoenix, AZ after my family moved from Panama City, FL when I was 6. I'll skip over the many adventures and jump straight to what I think is important here. I moved to New York in 2010 with the goal of assisting Irving Penn, unfortunately a month after getting here he passed away, so I had to go out on my own and start my career.
Since meeting Heather, she has helped me evolve into an artist; following my instincts to make what feels right, to allow the process to be organic and create what is already there.
Billy+Heather's story: Billy shot Heather's work months before they would actually meet. And they would start dating months after they met. And since that first fateful date over a year and a half ago, they have supported and elevated each other's individual pursuits with the addition of their collaborative projects...like this one.
Over the last year, Billy and Heather have been building the trust between artist and muse through brutally honest and erotically vulnerable imagery. With Billy behind the lens, he has been able to coax his lover to shed her insecurities and trust him. Billy beautifully abstracts his lover's form to convey this strange and eerie bond between anonymity and intimacy. Combining Heather's cages, braids and cocoons, with Billy's style of photography; the result does not objectify, but celebrates the mature female body garbed only in her designs.
All this work is culminating in an exhibition at Clic Gallery in Soho, NY opening on September 6, 2012 consisting of prints as large as 50x75 inches, limited edition book containing 120 images from our full collaboration, and interspersed with select pieces by Heather Huey.
Why we need you...
The cost of putting this together is high, so we need the support of our peers, friends, fans and the kickstarter community to help bring this to fruition. We are currently speaking with master printers in New York to print our images traditionally on black and white Fibre based paper, and book printers in Paris to assist us in printing and binding our limited edition book with the right materials to make it something particularly special. Many of heather's designs are organic in shape, so we need to have custom plexiglass cases made to present her pieces. We can't do this without you!
Any additional funds raised beyond our pledged goal will be used to make the prints, the book, and the exhibition all the better thanks to your generous support and belief in what we are creating.
Reward #6 - The polaroid postcard: I love sending these out. I slap a stamp on them, type an address on them with my old typewriter, draw, right or scribble little doodles around the boarders, write a message on the back and sign the little puppy. Throw them in the mail, and in a few days, get an email with a picture saying how happy they got it. These are all one of a kind polaroids by Billy Kidd :)

It's actually not that much, this is only a portion of the costs to do what we need to do with the book, prints, cases, and framing. A larger percentage is coming out of our pockets to do this project. Also, we aren't asking for handouts, we think of this as a pre-sale for our book and prints, so we can funnel the money into the project.
