We have a brief update for you this month, unfortunately it contains a little bit of bad news but we are glad to say that the core development on Her Majesty's SPIFFING is finished and the game will be in your hands very, very soon!

As you know we've been trying to get the game ready for a number of platforms simultaneously, namely Xbox One (with Xbox Play Anywhere on Windows 10), PlayStation 4 and Steam (PC/Mac/Linux). We have been hit by a number of setbacks this month getting the console versions of the game ready (the unexpected, out of the blue, why would anyone think of doing that kind of setbacks). Our Twitter followers will know that earlier this month we said we where aiming to release HMS on October 20th. We've reluctantly decided it would be best to push this back a few weeks, to a date in the middle of November. The intention is to give us enough time to properly prepare each version of the game so it stands the best chance of getting cross platform exposure.

It isn't a decision that we've taken lightly, I assure you everyone here is very keen to get the game out the door as quick as we can! However there are a few i's to dot and t's to cross, we want to make sure that we give HMS has the best chance to make it.

Beta testers

As a few of you will be aware we asked for volunteers to Beta test the game a couple of updates back. While our volunteers have all received a Steam key now the version online has not been updated since the last time I was in contact (despite my many promises to the contrary, sorry). This is entirely due to the reasons detailed above, we have a few more things to do for the console platforms this week, then we will get back to looking at the Steam version. I assure you the next update will be worth the wait! We've fixed a slew of bugs, vastly improved how the game looks and sounds in many places and have multiple control schemes. What we have now is much more polished and I'm looking forward to chatting with you about your thoughts.


While I don't want to leave you with nothing I don't have a great deal of work to hand. Things have been very fluid this last few weeks, a lot of stuff in the game has changed significantly (don't worry, all for the better). This has included our intro sequence which looks a little bit nicer than the video below:

Much like the beta we've polished this significantly in the last few weeks, however it should still give you an idea of what to expect. Just a little bit later than we'd hoped, in November.

In fact, speaking of November, we'll be exhibiting Her Majesty's SPIFFING at AdventureX, the Narrative Games Convention, in London on November 19-20.

Anyway, again, sorry for the delay. We're conscious that we're very fortunate to have had the opportunity to make this game and we just want to ensure it goes out in the best shape it can. It's been a tough, long old road but, I assure you, we're tantalisingly close to the finish. Thanks again for your continued support, we all greatly appreciate it.

      Thanks for your patience guys, we should be able to share more information with you folks soon.
      @Chiff, as I said we'll update the beta that'll allow you to switch to a point and click setup. If you're using the controller setup just ensure that you hold down the A button to bring up the interaction wheel, keep it held down and use the left stick to select an option (hold up to interact), then release the A button (while still holding the direction on the left stick). If that doesn't work for you send us a private message and we'll try and get you sorted.
      @Robert, the plan is still to do a trilogy, we have another 2 chapters of the game that we want to make (we don't have the machinery to follow the likes of a TellTale episodic model, but we've always maintained each chapter/ episode of HMS can be considered its own stand alone game) however, as we said during the campaign, this will depend on whether the game sells enough to fund a sequel. We'll elaborate more on this in a future update, probably the next one, assuming we don't run into any other issues with the console versions. Absolute worst case, if the game totally tanks, people that backed to get all 3 games will be compensated, however we are quietly optimistic that it'll do OK!

      Hey, no worries, I'm looking forward to playing when it's ready...

      Out of interest, is the plan still to do a trilogy? I've not heard mention of episodes 2 and 3 in a while?

      Rather major beta problem. The "interact" function doesn't work, I've tried xbox controller and keyboard all over the place and nothing works. The game for me currently consists of getting out of a chair then failing to do anything else.
