Gamescom is behind us, while we didn't have as prominent a presence as some of the big boys and girls we did manage to showcase Her Majesty's SPIFFING to a few people who have since written some pleasant things, more on that below.
But first, people have been very vocal about one question in particular, when can they expect to play Her Majesty's SPIFFING for themselves? I can inform you that it is our intention to finally welcome the world on board the HMSS Imperialise II on Thursday October 20th (so, you'll be able to finish the game before Battlefield 1 comes out the following day!).
Thus is the plan at least! We're working flat out to get all versions of the game ready to go simultaneously (which is no mean feat). At the moment we're just about keeping on top of things, if we run into any setbacks we'll let you know here.
For folks following this blog that didn't back our campaign (and thus not be privy to the contents of our last, super secret back only update), so you don't feel left out here is the trailer we were showing at Gamescom:
Additionally you'll have missed Darren's updated S.P.I.F.F.I.N.G. emblem. Once again so folks don't feel left out:
For backers and regular readers we do have some new artwork to show, but first I wanted to talk about some of the more difficult decisions we've had to make during development.
Back in November 2014 you helped us rase £33,813, for which I will personally be forever thankful. While this wasn't the full amount it would cost us to develop HMS it was crucially the amount that we needed at that time to kickstart the project. Through tax breaks and other government support (along with a few extra quid we scraped together ourselves) we've managed to stretch that £33,813 and sustain our small team for almost 22 months. However, I think it is fair to say, we've stretched things as far as is possible and we have to now wrap things up.
While I am very pleased with what our little team has accomplished there are things that we really wanted to include that we simply can't afford to. Something which has been difficult this last couple of months has been having to put a red line through some very amusing ideas (all of which would certainly have added to our game). Unfortunately the time required to properly implement them would prevent us from meeting our deadlines (which would cause a tremendous headache for our bank manager!) so we've had to make some difficult decisions.
That being said I'm confident that people will still be happy with what we have managed to include in the game! Perhaps in 15 years time we'll do a Super Ultra Anniversary 14K Hyper Definitive Special Turbo Definition GOTY Edition that we can stitch back in some of the bits that ended up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps.
Setting the (intro) scene
I'm pleased to introduce a late addition to the BillyGoat team, Alan Martin has joined us to help piece together a short intro sequence for the game, you can see a GIF of some of his handiwork below.
Expect to see more of this little fella and how our intro sequence is shaping up in a (near) future update!
