I'm sorry our February update is so late, we've been flat out preparing for GDC (that starts today in San Francisco) to ensuring that Her Majesty's SPIFFING looks the part when we demo it later this week.
We'll be demoing the game at a number of events including on the expo show floor, so if you're in town swing by and have a go! Look out for all the Union flags, we won't be far from there!
We've had a productive month despite some hardware complications (that I'll explain in our next update) however for now we wanted to share the following...
This month we welcomed a new team member to the Goat, Michael McDonald. Michael is a very talented 3D artist who is currently taking part in an initiative in Northern Ireland to get more graduates into game development. Regrettably this placement period is very short, however we've had him set straight to work modelling new props for HMS, a few of which you can see below.
In his time remaining we intend to hold Michael by his ankles and shake him vigorously until more art falls out of his pockets to adorn our game environments. Alternatively we'll just leave him to get on with things in 3ds Max, whichever works best.
Our friends from across the pond
Its been a while since we've shared more images or information about the American contingent that will make an appearance at a latter point in HMS. Darren has been busy designing an appropriately patriotic galactic cruiser, laden with proud symbolism and, well, guns.
So, rest assured that in the fictional near future that HMS lives the Second Amendment has remained... unamended. Hopefully we'll have a 3D version of this to show you soon!
As I said at the start of this post we'll be in town during the week of March 14th to showcase the latest build of HMS. We'll be heading a long to a number of events but if you're in town yourself be sure to come visit us in the Expo hall. We'll be demoing the game on the UK Industry stand (booth number 1016, a big thank you to our friends from UKIE for organising everything), if you're about we'd be more than keen to show you the game in person!
Not gunna lie, this month has been tough, a lot of sleepless nights trying to get builds of the game ready for the various events we're planning on attending at GDC, wrestling with a few tedious technical issues, and just trying to churn out as much of the remaining art and animation required to complete the game as we could. So forgive the brief, late update, we'll have something more substantial next month.
Oh, finally, finally...
A big thank you to Troels Pleimert for inviting myself to chat to him on his new Space Quest Historian podcast series. A dodgy internet connection at my end may have presented him with more editing than I'm sure he would have liked but it was great fun. When the podcast goes live we'll share the link here or on our Twitter so keep an eye out for that!
