The DVDs just arrived at our studio, so now we begin the process of packaging and shipping out each individual DVD. Backers should start to receive their DVDs shortly. Thank you for your patience.

    17. Bill Plympton 3-time creator on July 18, 2011

Thanks for the suggestion, Robert! Now that the project is funded we can finish the restoration, and, budget permitting, explore all of these ideas for providing an unedited, but restored version of the film. We'll be posting updates here in the coming months.

    18. Robert G. Schaad on July 18, 2011

Maybe have the word balloons as an option on the dvd (similar to the way subtitles can be turned onand off).

So happy to get involved in your project Bill! I am a great fan of Winsor McCay; in fact I published today my special tribute to him in my photoblog ( Feel free to have a look at it and leave a comment if you like it! So excited for the video!

    27. Bill Plympton 3-time creator on July 11, 2011

Jill - Thanks for your comments. Yes, it's going to be controversial, but I think it will help spread the genius of Winsor McCay. I hope you get to see the finished piece.

Heroic work, Bill. I remember seeing the earlier stages of this in your studio last year and feeling grateful that you were taking it on. I've restored McKay's original comic art, and I love the word balloons and his type, so I am trying to open my mind to their removal. I was lectured by an SVA student this weekend that art should live and be allowed to change! (All your many) hands are capable - who better to do this? Best of luck.

    29. Gunther Schmidl on June 30, 2011

Yay! I'm happy to see this project get funded. Big fan of Bill Plympton's work.

      PS: Hi Golan! ;)

    30. Yannick Deplaedt on June 29, 2011

I really can't wait to see this project succeed! I wish to second Julien's idea of giving the b&w version with it's bubbles as a bonus :) The few colorized images shown in the video introduction look fabulous!

    32. julien mudry on June 29, 2011

I, too, hope you'll also release a cleaned up version of the original black and white film. Maybe as a bonus on the DVD? ;-)

    33. Bill Plympton 3-time creator on June 29, 2011

Thank you so much for your input on The Flying House. There's been a lot of talk about releasing a second, intact but cleaned version of the film (silent and in black & white). Budget permitting, we are committed to exploring this and allowing extra production time towards making that a reality. Whereas we can't guarantee that this second version will make it to fruition, we really appreciate all of the feedback we have been getting and hope to, above all else, stay true to Winsor McCay and pay tribute to his priceless contribution to animation history.

    34. Patrick Stein on June 29, 2011

Hello. Just wanted to second leaving in speech bubbles/intertitles, they are beautiful and shouldn't disappear. Perhaps there can be two cuts of the film, one silent/black & white and one with voices/colorized?

    35. Nicky Jancewicz on June 24, 2011

This is fantastic! I too have been a big fan of Mr. McCay's for as long as I can remember. I can't wait to see the finished project. Although it would be nice to see the speech bubbles left in the restored version. They look great. And are a part of Winsor McCay's artistry.

    36. Bill Plympton 3-time creator on June 24, 2011

Thanks, Anne! Please share this project with all your friends. We still have a long way to go. I'll be posting some fun updates next week!

    37. Anne Gammage on June 23, 2011

I hope you reach your goal and will save this wonderful animation for more to enjoy!
