I decided it was time to shoot for having something definite going on with this Sparta Bay imprint. I’ve already had some talented artists consent to help me play with the idea of doing a sketchbook which will be out in time MidOhioCon in October, 2011.
Help Ursula battle the Undead in this sketchbook!
My name is Bill Nichols and I’m a writer and inker of comics books as well as an editor, most notably of Sketch Magazine, the magazine about the comics-creating process. I’ve been around comics most of my life and have been most things you can be in comics: reader, collector, retailer, and creator.
Over the years, I’ve accumulated my share of characters and stories and set them in my own personal playground called Sparta Bay, an East Coast city that is home and habitat to a great number of the world’s AMPS (amplified beings) whether they are super, scientific or mythical.
So, I decided it was time to shoot for having something definite going on with this Sparta Bay imprint. I’ve already had some talented artists consent to help me play with the idea of doing a sketchbook which will be out in time Wizard World Chicago in August, 2011.
Contributing to the sketchbook are artists like Gary Barker, Neil Vokes, Steven Howard, Chris Noeth, Rudy Garcia, Fred Lang and others. And some will be inked by me.
And I'll be including an original Ursula short story, written by me, of course.
The Ursula Sketchbook is the first effort in all this. Starting as a collaboration with Gary Barker, Ursula is the story of a young heroine trying to live up her family legacy as a Valkyrie-type and at the same time, live some kind of normal life. She has a natural aversion to the undead of all types, which are anathema to her. It’s unnatural to be dead but still walking around. Of course, this constantly puts her in situations where she must deal with those undead-of-all-types. Living in Sparta Bay will do that to you.
The fundraising goal will go toward printing the sketchbook and getting it out. Anything above and beyond that will set the stage for the first mini-series, the first of several if I have anything to say about it.
And I do.
Thank you for giving this a look. A Bigger Thanks if you decide to help out.
Ah, heck, thanks in any case.
