WILD RESERVE: PINK BOAR Playing Cards
This stylish deck of playing cards was designed in honor of pigs, to spread awareness on pig rescue, and to promote The Pig Preserve in Jamestown, TN where my family and I volunteer.
I have wanted to begin releasing my own decks for quite some time and felt that honoring this cause was the perfect opportunity to launch my very first deck and Kickstarter campaign. I'm proud to be doing it for such a wonderful purpose and by funding it you'll also be part of something great!
The pigs thank you.
What kind of deck is this?
This is a high quality standard poker-size deck made by USPCC (The United States Playing Card Company), the most widely known and trusted playing card company in the industry. They will be shipped both domestically and internationally by Gambler's Warehouse, one of the leading and most reliable distributors of playing cards in the United States.
Who do they suit and what do they feature?
Wild Reserve: Pink Boar playing cards are perfect for everyone including card enthusiasts, card game players, magicians, cardists and flourishers alike.
Each deck comes with 56 cards featuring a minimalistic yet beautifully intricate and inconspicuous one-way back design including mostly standard face cards aside from custom court cards including the Jack of Hearts featuring my profile, a custom Queen of Clubs featuring my wife’s profile AND a second 8-club reveal, and Daniel Madison's King of Diamonds with the 9♣️ reveal, a custom Ace of Spades, two custom Jokers (one of which is an 8♣️ reveal), a double backer and an ad card that provides a description of the rescue and their contact details for more information.
With USPCC traditional Arrco faces and classic thick-bordered card backs on USPCC's classic grade card stock with air cushion finish, all housed in a standard C1S stock tuck case, this is practically a Bicycle deck!
Bill Davis J♥️, Jena Davis Q♣️, Daniel Madison K♦️ with 9♣️ reveal, and Bill Davis Magic A♠️
Do you plan to release more?
Contingent on the success of this project, I plan to release more playing cards decks. These may include more editions of the Wild Reserve among other projects, and depending upon funding and demand, possibly even fully marked decks too.
I've had several other ideas for future decks and in fact have had a completely different project under development for a while now. AND let's just say Version 2 of the Pink Boars is also in the works and is strikingly beautiful, but first this current project must get off the ground!
How does pricing and payment work?
Prices INCLUDE the cost of US shipping already (but will be a little extra for international backers, to account for the difference). There is a price break on EACH level and a brick of 12 decks is discounted by 25% while two bricks are discounted by OVER A THIRD:
1 Deck: $15 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $4 extra international).
2 Decks: $29 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $9 extra international).
3 Decks: $42 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $10 extra international).
4 Decks: $52 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $12 extra international).
Half Brick (6 Decks): $75 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $14 extra international).
Brick (12 Decks): $135 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $22 extra international).
2 Bricks (24 Decks): $240 (no extra shipping charge within the US, $41 extra international).
Just select the number of decks you would like among the rewards (explained below), click the green "Continue" button and enter your payment information if you haven't previously entered it into Kickstarter, and then click the green "Pledge" button.
If you're not interested in receiving anything but would still like to help out, there is even an option for you to pledge any amount you would like!
For those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it's quick and easy to understand via these 3 simple points:
1) When you "pledge" for a "reward" you're simply agreeing (pledging) for the order (reward) you make now to be processed IF and ONLY IF the campaign gets fully funded. (Fully funded means the total amount needed to produce a project - in the case of this campaign, $6,555 is needed, which can be seen up at the top of this main campaign page.)
2) When you enter your debit or credit card information and submit your pledge, you WILL NOT be charged ANYTHING, NOT EVEN A DIME, unless and until the campaign reaches its goal. If it does not, the campaign will end and you will never EVER be charged. (If the campaign IS successful, the amount you pledged will then be deducted at the VERY END of the campaign and your order will be processed, so "pay" now and deduct it from your checkbooks register/budget as the money has already been taken out.)
3) You can raise or lower your pledge amount/reward level any time before the campaign ends. You can even cancel your pledge altogether but please try not to because THE PIGS ARE COUNTING ON YOU!
Bonus Benefits & Offers!
1) 1 PROTOTYPE DECK to two lucky winners - just add 1 regular deck to your current order ($15 or $29 international). Winners will be randomly chosen after the campaign ends.
Also, message me for more information on some other really cool extras I'm working to try and have included with this!
2) METALLIC INK STRETCH GOAL UNLOCKED AT 10K - Both Jokers will have metallic ink when we reach 10K!
3) YOUR FACE ON ANY COURT as a digital file - just add $100 to your current pledge ($114 international)
4) FREE HALF BRICK for sponsoring a pig for 3 months - just adding $75 to your pledge ($89 international)
5) SIGNED DECK- just add 2 more decks to your current pledge ($29, or $38 international)
6) WALLPAPER for iPhone/Android - just add $1 or more to your pledge
7) FREE Pink Boar sticker in every order
Feel free to COMBINE any of the above offers 1-5 by adding each respective amount to your pledge AND BE SURE TO MESSAGE ME CLARIFYING WHAT YOU ARE PLEDGING FOR!
The Pig Preserve is home to nearly 200 desperate and needy pigs who have been rescued from a variety of situations including abuse, neglect, abandonment, factory farms, slaughter transport trucks, research labs, agriculture clubs, failed sanctuaries, animal shelters and other circumstances.
Here they are provided safety and security away from harm, with the gift of freedom and the ability to live out their lives without confinement in an environment that is as natural and free as can be.
It goes without saying that this deck would not exist without them! I thank them for all that they do for so many of these underserved loving and intelligent creatures that most do not consider or understand, and for providing them such a loving and natural rehabilitating home environment in comparison to what so many of them have seen. I also thank each and every pig and piglet at the preserve, many of whom I've loved on and who have likewise shown me their affection, and give extra thanks to Rich and Laura Hoyle as well as Afton Hughes for approving this project!
Extra Special Thanks:
I cannot take full credit for this design and owe immense thanks to my beautiful wife Jena Davis. She was the brain behind the pink boar you now see and the keen eye of approval I needed during the development on nearly every detail of the deck including the font, graphic placement and custom card design. Based on an older idea I had in the early stages, even the Wild Reserve name was her ingenious conception for which I am forever grateful! Without her this deck would not have become what it is. Her love, support and ever-enduring patience mean the world to me. As the 8 ♣️ is her card, this reveal is in her name.
Thanks to my stepdaughter Madison Sawyer who helped make it possible for me to do the artwork more easily, and to my stepson Jackson Gafford who assisted with his helpful and positive feedback. Jackson also inspired the Playing Cards For A Cause moniker and modeled the cards in one of his cardistry moves below.
Thanks to my parents and in-laws who have on many occasions enjoyed my magic, and extra special thanks in memory of my mother-in-law's fiancé who always encouraged me to follow my dreams as well.
Thank you to Chris and Adria Ovdiyenko of Dead On Paper for their knowledge, guidance and appreciated suggestions, to Tiffany Mahan and Ashley Voegele of USPCC for their patience and assistance with my questions and concerns about cost, artwork and deck specifics, and to Eddie Kamal at Gambler's Warehouse for his assistance with cost and shipping. You have all have helped me learn so much about playing card deck production!
Particular thanks to my good friend and brother Steve Vil of Fantasma Magic New York for pushing me to hold myself to higher standards, for his always appreciated constructive criticism, and for being my voice coach. Thanks to Chris Walde for his endless praise and support, and thanks to all of my brothers (and sisters) at Nashville Magic Club (IBM Ring 37) including Adam Miller (for adding this to this month's newsletter addendum) and to Brian Walthart for his support as well. Brian and Chris were both proponents of my one-way back design early one which was very encouraging!
Big BIG thanks to David Kenney of Magic Orthodoxy for reviewing and promoting this deck, and to Brian Brushwood of Scam Nation (home of Scam School and Scam School Remix) for promoting it as well! And thanks to John Bukowski of Invictus Magic for promoting this on the Invictus Instagram and Invictus Facebook pages too!
This campaign also would not have become what it is without the contribution of international help and support:
Thanks to Black Roses Playing Cards' Daniel Schneider of Germany (who is also the designer of Chris Brown's Orbit Decks V3 and up) for his amazing artwork of my face and my wife's face on the Jack of Hearts/Queen of Clubs, for his advice on presentation and for helping by pushing my campaign through his newsletter. Also thanks to Nicolas Molines of France for his incredible renderings, and to Stockholm17's Lorenzo Gaggiotti of Sweden for his extensive pricing guidance and patience!
Special thanks to Kyle Milne and my many (M)ALLIANCE brothers and sisters from all over the world, including the 9♣ FELLOWSHIP, who have all been so excited and encouraging of this project - and extra EXTRA special thanks to Daniel Madison of England (Youtube channel here) for his personal endorsement of my deck on Instagram and Patreon, the time and attention he has drawn to showcasing it, use of his King of Diamonds, his ingenius idea for the 8-club reveal on my wife's Q♣️, his endless support and enthusiasm from the start, and most recently, his AMAZING deck review video above! EXTRA EXTRA THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, BROTHER!
Last but MOST CERTAINLY not least, I thank YOU, each and every backer, for pledging orders toward bringing this deck to print. Whether you order one or more decks, each potential purchase from the smallest to the largest makes all the difference. These cards are not only for a great cause that you get to be part of, but I get the joy of creating and putting them out there FOR YOU! So please mash that green "Back this project" button and support these in whatever way you are able!
Credit to Ever Elizalde for this perfect rendition of me!
