Fun library-themed patches to reward outstanding service, advertise your mad skills, or just start interesting conversations.
A Library Ranger is anyone who loves libraries and helps support their mission, from librarians, pages, and clerks to teachers, students, and patrons. And now there's a fun way to celebrate the diverse skills that these good people exhibit on a daily basis: high-quality embroidered badges, designed by Bill & Gene, the Unshelved guys.
Wearing a Library Ranger badge tells the world that you are dedicated to executing your responsibilities, that you have completed your training with honors, that you performed service above and beyond the call of duty, or that you somehow managed to endure a truly epic level of nonsense. They are perfect for dazzling your friends, impressing your coworkers, or starting a conversation at a library conference. Give them to your employees, board members, supporters, volunteers, students, or yourself!
We have already designed a full set of badges, covering virtually every aspect of the library experience. Depending on how high this project is funded, some or all will become 1 1/4" fully embroidered patches, perfect for gluing or sewing onto a shirt, bag, jacket, hat, vest, or sash.
We have already reached sufficient funding to make three packs of badges, and increased the number of badges in each from six to seven, at no extra cost to you. And the more badges we make, the less they cost us, so if we raise enough money we will increase the number of badges per pack to eight!
We set our baseline funding goal at the minimum level that will enable us to economically produce a reasonable set of badges. But that is just the start! The more folks pledge, the more everyone gets:
In addition to the packs of badges we are making some fun Library Rangers gear. We have combined some of these items into discounted bundle premiums at right, or just add them to existing premiums. Do this by selecting the reward you want, then adding the cost of the add-on to the price of that reward (we will email you in early October to get the details of your order). Kickstarter makes this a little complicated, so don't be afraid to click the "ask a question" button below and we'll help you puzzle it out.
We hope you will join the Library Rangers by pledging today!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have been creating and selling merchandise for over eleven years, and we have a firm grasp of what it takes to produce and fulfill a wide variety of goods. We have budgeted and scheduled this project carefully, and have identified reliable suppliers for all the items offered for sale. However it is possible that certain materials will become unavailable, or that suppliers will fail to produce goods of sufficient quality, or on schedule. In the unlikely event we are unable to deliver your premium in a reasonable time frame we will refund your pledge.
We have already designed the eighteen badges for the baseline goal, plus the Library Rangers patch and the six badges for the stretch goals. We have embroidered samples in hand for four of the designs, and based on these we expect the rest of the designs should transfer smoothly to embroidery. However it's possible that we may have to adjust some of the designs in order to yield the best possible results. Therefore the designs you see here may not precisely reflect the final badges.
Bill is associated with another Kickstarter (Upgrade Path, a Not Invented Here collection) which was recently funded. The two projects have been carefully scheduled with each other in mind, and we do not anticipate any conflict in terms of manufacture or fulfillment.
No. We looked into doing this, but it is expensive and the results are very uneven. We didn't want you to iron your badge on, only to have it fall off a few weeks later. We instead recommend you sew them on, or use a special purpose fabric glue like Patch Attach, available at Amazon or your local craft store.
We hope so! We have lots of fun ideas, but whether we proceed with them will depend in large part on how well this Kickstarter is received. We are really hoping we get to write the Library Rangers Handbook!
That is our goal!
Maybe, but we have no specific plans as to what or when.
Unfortunately we have to draw the line somewhere, and these 24 badges are the only ones we'll be doing for this Kickstarter. If it turns out to be very successful we will certainly consider doing additional badges in the future.
