Update #12

Shirts, and updates

Hello lovely backers! I'm sitting at the print shop where I just put in the order for all the shirts! I hope to ship them out before Christmas! Thanks for your patience. After getting back to the states I fell seriously ill and am just now coming back on line. Dang parasites.

There is a lot to update you on! Baghdad's hackerspace have come up with a name - Fikra Space! It means thought space in arabic: http://facebook.com/fikraspace . They've been having workshops and meeting about once a week, send them some love on facebook I'm sure the crew would love to hear from you!

Beirut's hackerspace is doing really well with multiple workshops a week and their own physical location in Mar Mkhail in Beirut. http://facebook.com/lambalabs and lambalabs.org. The crew there hosted a collaboration between the hackerspace and TEDxBeirut. The incredible part of that story is that one of Fikra Space's members was able to visit Lamba Labs at the event! As we're growing out this movement int he Middle East, seeing the intersections start to develop is really exciting.

The video the GEMSI crew shot in Beirut is in the final stages of editing and I want to thank Karen Abad and Justin Jach for all their hard work.

I'll leave you with two thoughts:

1) GEMSI loves you and is interested in any collaborators out there. Feel like you can help globalize hackerspaces, have something to share, want to help us measure impact, do our job better? Reach out! We're looking for partners and volunteers!

2) GEMSI is organizing and planning fall work. Hint, Egypt is on our radar.

Be well, and reach out! I'll send out KS prize request / info shortly!
