Big Red & Shiny is back!
After a two-year hiatus, Big Red & Shiny is relaunching. With a new editorial team at the helm, we are creating a bigger and bolder Blog devoted to New England art & artists and a monthly web-based Journal with perceptive and incisive writing from around the globe.
Big Red & Shiny's mission has always been to support the arts community. We'd like to mark our return to the city with an afternoon of lively debate at MIT and an evening of shameless celebration at the Boston Center for the Arts' Mills Gallery, gathering artists and art-lovers alike to relax and let loose. Best of all, these two events are FREE and open to the public!
On Saturday, September 29th, from 6-10pm The Mills Gallery has kindly donated their space to accommodate all that we've planned including live performances, dance, music, video projections, a pop-up art show and the heaving crowd we plan to draw. Special thanks to the Boston Center for the Arts.
And on Saturday, October 27th, at 4pm MIT will host Big Red and our guest speakers at their Bartos Theater. It'll be a lively event with two separate panel discussions—first, a moderated talk about art writing & criticism to be followed by an active exchange of thoughts on community. Mix and mingle with the brightest. Special thanks to the List Visual Arts Center.
Help us start off with a BANG! Help us throw Boston a whale of a PARTY!

What is this Kickstarter funding?
That's a great question! You are supporting our entire relaunch including:
1. the first SIX ISSUES of Big Red & Shiny's NEW MONTHLY JOURNAL live October 15, 2012, expanded to include all kinds of cool multimedia projects, commissioned artwork, slideshows, and social media widgets. Your donations will help pay all of our talented contributors: writers, artists, designers.
2. the PANEL DISCUSSIONS. This, in addition to our free party at the BCA, is the cherry on the cake. There would be no need for a Big Red & Shiny relaunch if it weren't for the Community we are supporting. This is why we want to gather all of you for a bold and brainy love-in.
It sounds as though this is definitely going ahead - what happens if you don't raise the money?
How long do people like to work for free? We're pulling out all the stops on this one and asking some pretty impressive players to go out on a limb for us. We're counting on all of you to help us build long-lasting collaborations!
