About this project
Can you outplant your fellow aliens and gain gardening glory to last eons? Use your special powers and complete secret missions to give you the edge as you strive to create the most glorious gardens of Mars.
Gardens of Mars is an easy to learn family strategy game with dice drafting and a bit of area influence. Players will choose from the movement options available, by drafting dice, to find the best spots to plant their flowers. Players are rewarded more glory points by planting a flower next to other flowers of the same family. And even more glory points by completing missions!
Gardens of Mars' title and theme is a shout out to Martin Gardner (Martian Gardener!) by designer Néstor Romeral Andrés. In 2011, he designed Gardens of Mars and wanted to give a nod to the man whose work influenced his passion for puzzles and games. Learn more about Martin Gardner and his work here.
Néstor is an awarded and seasoned designer who also designed Hong and Sugar Gliders, which are published by White Goblin Games.
See his games in the nestorgames versions here!
He is giving a lifetime 5% nestorgames discount to all Gardens of Mars game tier backers. How nice is he?!
In Gardens of Mars, you are an alien gardener striving to plant the most glorious garden...in an effort to save Mars. You will be drafting dice to maneuver yourself to the best places to plant your flowers...except other players don't know what flowers you have. Take advantage of this secrecy, and your special powers, to help you complete missions for more glory.
The game is played over a series of player turns that are broken up into five phases: Roll, Draft, Move, Plant, and Score. You will complete all possible phases, then play proceeds to the player to the left.
In the Roll Phase, the dice are rolled to create the Dice Draft Pool. The number of dice rolled is determined by the number of empty spaces surrounding your Meeple.
During the Draft Phase, you will draft a die for your movement. If there are no more dice in the Dice Draft Pool to be drafted, you will proceed to the Roll Phase.
The Move Phase is when you will move your Meeple the number of spaces shown on your drafted die. This movement must be in a straight line without crossing other Meeples or Rocks. (This could be effected by special powers!)
During the Plant Phase, you will place a flower in your space, if it is empty. If you land on a space already containing a flower, your turn will end and you will lose a Glory Point.
When you plant a flower, you will score Glory points based on where it is planted. Aim to plant next to flowers of the same family!
In the Score Phase, you will tally your Glory Points scored and move your Glory Point Token on the Score Track to your new score. You can score extra Glory Points on your turn for completing Missions and personal Secret Missions.
Missions are open to all players while you will have Secret Missions of your own that you can complete. Be diligent! Uncompleted Secret Missions will result in negative Glory.
You have 5 Special Action Tokens to use throughout the game. Use them to activate your special powers, to perform a Flower Swap with the Incubator, and to wipe Missions for new ones.
The player that has the most Glory Points when a player's last flower is planted is the winner of the game!

We at Big Kid Games strive to make your Kickstarter experience a great and disappointment free experience. You are helping to bring one of our games to life and the best way for us to show you our gratitude is to deliver a quality product in a timely manner. And we aim to do just that.
Tabletop gaming is one of my biggest hobbies and a favorite activity among my family and friends. When I back a game on Kickstarter, it is my expectation to receive a product that was cared for and well made. I've been burned by a few Kickstarter campaigns and have received less than high-quality products from others. It's a big downer to have anticipated and waited that long for something only to receive something that is less than what was promised. We don't want to be at the delivering end of this type of experience.
While no one can predict unexpected obstacles that are encountered throughout a process such as this, it is our pledge to you to be upfront, honest, and professional as we work through any unfortunate challenges that may arise. Suffice it to say, any type of mishap is not expected, but we do not want to pretend that all campaigns and journeys of this nature are infallible and problem free.
Thank you for jumping on board for what Big Kid Games has to offer.
Enjoy our games!
