About

This project is about supporting our local agricultural community! I intend to purchase wool from SMALL local sheep and alpaca farmers that have no outlet for their wool and live in an environment where every penny counts. Much of their wool harvest is ending up in compost bins and burn pits! This is a loss of revenue for our local farmers! In Pennsylvania, there aren't many large farms that can support massive farming operations and the small ones are becoming less and less. This is my effort to reach out to them and providing even a little more income for our hardworking local farmers.

The wool purchased is processed in a sustainable manner, i.e. rain water collection for washing, eco friendly soaps (when I use them), and eco friendly dyes (again when I use them.) I usually depend on the natural colors of the animals to create beautiful soft yarns that are visually interesting and a treat to the hand!

I have personally purchased or rehabilitated several drum carders, spinning wheels, and looms to provide an outlet for these lovely wool fleeces. One of the tools that would make this project easier would be a wool picker. Hand picking a wool fleece is viable but takes a long time! Just another loss of possible revenue...

The yarn/yarn products created from local sourced wool is sold in a local community arts shop, as well as several yarn shops in the area. My daughter and I usually contribute to the local craft shows. Proceeds go toward the purchase of equipment or the purchase of more wool.
