Black Sailors: Traders of Kobberland is a project that will expand the Black Sailors 75mm resin miniature line with new and exciting models based on Nordic European Mythology. Although it is aparently planned as a four miniature line-up, we have many cool surprises prepared should you help us bring this dream to life.
So far, BlackSailors has been a universe dominated by orcs of all kinds. But we think that it is time to expand the Black Sailors universe with other types of characters. At Bigchild Creatives, we have always been fans of the work of Even Mehl Amundsen and we have always liked the dwarfs that he designs a lot, so we proposed him to make one of the crews of the Black Sailors universe. Even thought it was a very interesting idea and happily accepted. Each line that he drew, each character, seemed incredible to us, and we feel fortunate to include his art in our little universe. If you are not familiar with his work, we invite you to discover it
He is currently creating his Patreon, so if you want to give support, do not hesitate. He is absolutely worth it!
These miniatures have been sculpted, and painted here at the Big Child Creatives studio with the collaboration of some of the most talented miniature artists out there. And what is more, they will be manufactured by our own talented team of resin casting experts. This will allow us to monitor the process closely to ensure the best quality in the market and a timely delivery.
We have learned a lot since our previous campaigns, and we want to put all this experience to good use, repeating everything we did right and correcting our past mistakes. We invite you to join us in this journey of discovery with the new crew of the Black Sailors, the Traders of Kobberland.
This campaign is a journey of discovery, full of surprises such as custom kits to make your miniatures even more striking than they already are. Some of these kits will be Kickstarter exclusive, so those of you who choose to support us will be able to proudly show it through unique miniatures, even more full of life and character than our regular releases.
We have many surprises in store, from new miniatures, to cool alternative pieces for existing miniatures, Kickstarter exclusive pieces and figures, and plenty of exciting content! How far will this journey take us? That's for you to decide!
Add-ons are additional items you may be interested in adding to the rewards that correspond to your pledge level. To select an add-on, simply add its cost in euros to the amount of your pledge. At the end of the campaign we will send you an invitation to a pledge manager where you will be able to specify exactly which add-ons you want to receive.
We have been manufacturing resin miniatures for the past five years and we have developed a unique casting process that uses a bespoke resin formula and ensures the best detail transference from original sculpt to mold, master copy and finally production copies.
You don't have to take our word for it though. Just click on one of the quotes below to see what other people has to say about our resin casting:
All processes are done in-house, from cutting the sculpts into suitable pieces for the molding process, to 3d printing, mold production, resin casting, and packaging; so we are confident we can deliver the rewards in a timely manner and achieving the highest quality.
Given our past experience with the packaging of large projects, we have decided to make some changes to the way we pack our miniatures.
We want your rewards to arrive in the best possible condition, so we've improved the protection of the figures inside our current blister packaging. The most delicate parts are packed in small ziplock bags, and all the remaining space inside the blister is filled with either packing chips or a protective layer of foam.
By doing this, we aim to avoid any shipping damages to the figures to ensure you receive everything as we originally intended.
Additionally, for those of you who are interested in collecting the card art, we will provide it separately as well. It will fit inside the blisters just in case you want to put it there, or you can keep it outside to use it as a reference for assembling or painting.
By now you may be wondering, if we have miniatures already manufactured, why use Kickstarter at all? We could, after all, simply release the miniatures for you to buy.
We could do that, but we want to do much more. We have planned many additional parts, new miniatures, painting articles.. and to do that, we need your help. Together, we can make the Black Sailors line the most epic 75mm resin miniature line ever produced, the crown jewel of any miniatures collection.
At the end of the day, we are still a group of friends working together to make the most out of our shared passion: miniatures. We are sculptors, painters, casters... but above all, we are hobbyists that have been blessed with the opportunity to make a living out of what we love most, and because of that, we want to give back to you, the people who enable our dreams and make them come true.
We pledge to you that we will sculpt the best sculpts, paint the best paint jobs, and cast the best castings to ensure that you will receive a product on par with what you've come to expect from us. Pledge your support, and you won't be disappointed!
We would like to take a moment to recognize and thank everyone who is involved in this project in one way or another. In addition to everyone at the studio, we have been blessed with the friendship of many amazing talented artists from the miniatures hobby, and we wouldn't have made it this far without them! Taking into account our past experience and due to the nature of this campaign (you can pretty much pick and choose exactly what miniatures you want to receive), we know shipping costs will probably vary a lot from one backer to another.
We want to be fair to all of you, rather than overcharge some and undercharge others, so we will collect funds for the actual shipping costs to each of you after the campaign ends through our pledge manager.
All rewards will be lovingly hand packed by us at our studio in Madrid, Spain, and ship via the Spanish postal service using a tracked service. Find below the approximate shipping costs of each pledge to the most common regions.
Our studio is located in Madrid, Spain; and since we will manufacture and ship all of your rewards from here, you won't have to pay any custom charges if you are in the EU.
If you are a retailer and you would like to carry any of the miniatures from this campaign or any of our existing releases, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to set you up with a retailer discount.
If you are one of our current retailers and you want to carry the miniatures from this campaign to support it, please get in touch with us via the usual means and we will work it out directly with you.
Risks and challenges
This is our third Kickstarter project as an independent company after successfully delivering the original Black Sailors a few years back (you can find the campaign here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fantasyminiatures/black-sailors-pirates-orcs-fantasy-miniatures), and more rencently Black Sailors: Legends of the Jade Sea.
We are prepared to deliver a quality product again. We have learned a lot about the resin casting process during the past few years, and now we know a lot of things we should do again, and more importantly, many mistakes we shouldn't repeat, especially in the shipping and logistics department.
Most of the miniatures shown in this campaign are not only designed and sculpted, but also in production and sometimes even manufactured. Pretty much all that is left is finishing up the production of all the unlockable extras from this campaign, and for that, we need your help.
We are aware that production problems can appear down the line, as well as logistics problems and a plethora of other risks. We have contingency plans in place to deal with those when and if they come, and we pledge to you to be transparent in our communication: if anything goes wrong, you will be the first to know.
However, we have done our best to ensure the overall risk is minimal and we will continue to do so until this project is finished and your rewards are delivered to your doorsteps. You can rest assured that we will do everything in our power to achieve that goal to your satisfaction!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
