Melissa & Nate
We are capturing the most compelling love stories in America, and compiling them into a beautiful coffee table book. We'll also be publishing our conversations with these couples and renowned relationship experts on our podcast, The Loveumentary.
By highlighting the relationships that are working, our ultimate goal is to reinvigorate the country's faith in love, marriage, and one another.
When it comes to love and relationships, most of the conversation in America revolves around the high divorce rate, celebrity breakups, domestic abuse, and infidelity. We tend to focus the majority of our attention on what isn't working.
But, what about the people who are making it work?
There are countless couples (of all religions, races, sexual orientations, etc.) in America who are building satisfying long-term relationships, lasting marriages, and happy families. Why isn’t anyone telling their stories?
Enter: Melissa and Nate.
We met in person for the first time on Day 1 of this project (insane, right?!). When we had our first call after being introduced by a mutual friend in early summer, we realized we shared the exact same dream: To capture the stories of couples who are in love and building lasting relationships—and uncover what they do differently. So, we decided to take a leap of faith and go on this journey together.
But, this project isn't just about the fairytale romances. It's about the husband who stuck by his wife, even after her recovery from terminal brain cancer completely changed her personality. It's about the wife who stuck by her husband while he was struggling with drug addiction for over a decade when he came home from the military. It's about the ordinary couples doing extraordinary things in the name of true love, all across the country.
We’ve already captured over 25 incredible love stories on Loveumentary.com, and are currently traveling across the country in search of 75+ more! We will also be interviewing relationship experts, marriage counselors, researchers, and psychologists who have dedicated their lives to the study of love and relationships. This journey is ultimately about intertwining storytelling and science to add context and depth to the project and final book.
In order to finish this trip, and bring the final book and podcast to life, we need your help! We already started this project, and have been covering our costs for food, gas, accommodations, and content production.
We're launching this campaign to cover the following:
- Writing and editing the final "America, In Love" book
- Designing a final print edition of this book
- Book printing & shipping
- Literary usage permissions for several copyrighted quotations
- Initial setup fee for electronic publication
- Covering the remainder of our gas, food, and additional travel expenses to reach our goal of 100+ interviews
- Shooting additional video footage of the journey
- Editing and organizing raw video and podcast content
- Marketing and promotion (online and offline)
You can check out what we’ve done so far at Loveumentary.com.
(1) Back this Kickstarter campaign, and share The Loveumentary project with anyone and everyone who might be interested in what we’re doing!
(2) Tell us about the couple you most admire. We’ll feature some of the stories on our website, and may even choose a few to go visit and interview during our cross-country journey.
(3) If you know of anyone in the media who would be interested in covering The Loveumentary project or our journey across America, we’d love a warm intro!
(4) Follow the project, and share the content you love. We will be posting blogs, podcasts, and video footage of our journey every day. More than anything, we just want to share everything we’re learning about love, commitment, and relationships with as many people as possible.
Sharing the content enables us to reach a bigger audience. That’s the heartfelt goal at the center of all this. Please, share away! We want you to be a part in the journey with us, as it unfolds and thereafter.
There’s one more way to get involved.
We are now accepting and publishing submissions from readers around the country who answer the following question via a handwritten letter:
If you were to write one last letter to the love of your life, what would it say?
As we travel across the country to capture the greatest love stories in America, one of our goals is to encourage as many people as possible to write a love letter and send it now.
Tomorrow isn't promised to us.
We don't want to wait another day to capture these love stories and shift the collective conversation about love and marriage in America. And we don't want you to wait another day to live out and share your own great love story.
We hope you'll write a love letter today, and follow along on The Loveumentary journey with us!

How are Melissa and Nate getting along?
Every day, we will be recording what we learn about one another, love, relationships, and ourselves during this cross-country journey. We will include some of the highlights throughout our trip in the final "America, In Love" book.
SOME OF OUR FAVORITE REWARDS:
Risks and challenges
BURN OUT: Burn out from long trips is bound to happen. Both of us have traveled for long periods of time before, so luckily, we have some experience learning how to keep our energy up and take creative breaks when we need them. To avoid burn out, we'll be taking time to connect with friends and family along the way, explore national parks, and spend time alone to reflect each week.
TIME: It's going to take a long time to record all of these stories and publish a book about them. But, we'll be publishing a ton of podcasts and blog posts long before the completion of the book. And, while we are planning and preparing for a smooth project, it's impossible to predict all the potential road blocks we may hit: postponed or canceled interviews, unexpected couples and experts we meet along the way, flat tires, inclement weather, failed internet connections, etc. We will do our absolute best to stick to plan and adhere as closely as possible to our reward fulfillment dates. And, should anything come up, we'll communicate big changes along the way.
WRITING & PRODUCTION: The book may take longer to produce and ship than we are anticipating. But, both of us are consistent writers, and are used to blogging on almost a daily basis. Melissa has worked in the media and publishing industry for 8 years; Nate has experience with video and audio editing, and has created a successful Loveumentary podcast with over 25 published interviews so far.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
