About this project
9/28/12 Phase 2: THE DIGITAL DESIGN COMMUNITY
We have engaged JT Nesbitt, a world-renowned motorcycle designer, to build three prototypes of the most impressive motorcycle he could imagine. We've seen previews and--wow. In conjunction with the project, we’re filming a feature-length documentary of the entire process. JT's return to the world-stage will be an important aspect of the storyline. But perhaps more important will be the people who enter his world, learn from his master-craft ethic, and are changed in the process. Finally, our team (and possibly you!) will head to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to break 3 World Records with the prototypes we produce. Our classes are: 1650cc APBG (special construction pushrod blown gas) APSPBG (special construction partial streamline pushrod blown gas) APSPBF (special construction partial streamline pushrod blown fuel).
We are utilizing funds we raise here on Kickstarter to create the initial designs and fabricate the bikes. We are building three bikes so that we are able to experiment appropriately without becoming tied to a production process. We will test and refine the designs in order to ready them for competition at the Bonneville Salt Flats and we will prove their worth on the battle field, so to speak, in August 2013. Along the way, we will document our successes and failures, the involvement of our funders, and the land speed results at the completion of this great adventure.
The competing interests of industrial design, production, craftsmanship, and the digital age prohibit brilliant design. We believe this doesn't have to be the case. Therefore, we're starting a company to fund the creation of these motorcycles without the encumbrance of production requirements or the unnecessary flair of showy designers you've probably already heard of. This project will purely be about applying 20th century craftsmanship in a 21st century context.
Jim Jacoby is a seasoned entrepreneur with a track record of successful for-profit and non-profit initiatives. He founded and oversaw the growth of his current company, Manifest Digital from a small group of 6 people over 10 years ago to a $20MM+/year revenue organization today. Manifest is founded in the principles of user-centered design. As such, it is a leader in the craft of interaction design in the digital age. Working with some of the best strategists, technologists, and creatives in the business, he now seeks to set a standard for this genre of craftsmanship in the digital age.
Jacoby also co-concepted, funded and spun out a successful and profitable 501(c)3 called The Insight Labs, which is currently receiving worldwide notoriety from the likes of the Clinton Global Initiative, TED Active, and others.
His latest endeavor is to establish an ongoing platform for conversation, experience, and promotion of master craftsmanship. To do so, he has funded and established the American Design and Master Craft Initiative (ADMCi). Sitting at the cross-roads of once flourishing master-craft trades and what is still yet to come in the digital era, the ADMCi promotes the core learnings of craftsmanship and its true benefits in this once-in-a-generation transition.
JT Nesbitt is a world-renowned motorcycle designer and automotive innovator. He originally hit the world stage as part of the design team from Confederate Motorcycles who concepted and created the G2 Hellcat and Wraith. JT established both a design aesthetic and flair for innovation from the very beginning of his career.
His most recent project, The Magnolia Special, was featured on Jay Leno's Garage where Jay was exceptionally effusive. This self-funded project re-set the standards for automotive design in alternative fuel cars. JT also established a new trans-continental record for vehicles in its fuel class.
Today, he seeks to answer all the questions his previous projects asked. To do so, he needs a clean canvas, responsible funding, and the participation of an eager audience. The Bienville Legacy Motorcycle that you will see created before you will be the outcome.
Justin is a film-maker, entrepreneur, and is currently serving as the Bienville Legacy media manager. He is the Founder/Senior Producer of JJack Productions, a film/video production company that focuses on marketing talented companies and individuals alike. Justin's core focus is capturing innovative talent.
Kickstarter Quick Info
- Everyone who pledges for a reward will receive one from our team
- Pledging is easy, and your pledge amount is never disclosed
- It's all or nothing: We have to raise all $500,000 by our deadline
- If all $500,000 is not pledged, then you're never charged a penny
Risks and challenges
Our risks and challenges are common with any other vehicle development project. We face the need to change design direction based on findings as we are fabricating the three bikes. We have already purchased the majority of all materials we'll need to fabricate the motorcycles and have confirmed commitment from all vendors related to the process. Design drawings and a 3D rendering are complete for machining purposes.
Perhaps most important to our success is the quality and reliability of the master-designer leading the project, JT Nesbitt. Given his track record of success with both team and solo design projects, we expect nothing but extraordinary results from this effort. JT has already completed major portions of the design process and is in fact at the time or writing, beginning to mock-up the engine placement and final design components related to its fabrication. We are ready to go and already under a significant wave of positive momentum!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
