This is more than just an album. This is a musical story about a journey to discovery. Twelve years ago, I was invited to collaborate on an album with a dear friend and mentor, Steve Chester.
Through that album I discovered that, not only am I a singer, I am a songwriter.
This is an album nearly a decade in the making. It's a story of my journey to discover who I am beyond a daughter, a lover, a mother, a sister, a friend...
It's for every person who's ever asked if I have an album. It's for every person who's ever encouraged me in my art. It's for my friends and family who have supported me emotionally through the highs and lows of a this type of journey. It's for my daughters. I hope that by watching me on my own journey, they will avoid some of the same pitfalls, and they will begin the discovery of who they are much younger than I did.
I hope you learn who you are and how to speak that truth early on so that no one can confuse you along the way.
It is for me. It is for the young me I once was who was somehow convinced that she was too loud, too wild, too free.
It's for the teenage me who learned that there is not "one" me, but many facets and moods. It's for the twenty-something me who climbed into a box to make others more comfortable.
It's for the thirty-something year old me, who climbed out of her box, embarked on a journey to rediscover the many facets and moods and to proclaim, "I am a singer. I am a songwriter. I am a woman. I am loud! I am wild. I... AM...FREE."
This, like all Kickstarter campaigns, will be an "all or nothing" campaign. If I don't raise all of the funds, I get none of them.
Even before I launch, has been a lot of work involved in preparing for a crowdfunding launch and a crowdfunding campaign. There are photo and video shoots, some early recording and mixing to promote the campaign and the project.
I cannot do what I do without the love, prayers, encouragement, and financial contributions of my fans, friends, and family. I am still a full-time mother with several part-time jobs that allow me to invest time in my kids, my music, and my community.
This Kickstarter allows you to receive awesome rewards for joining me on this journey to produce this album. From digital downloads of bonus tracks all the way up to private house concerts, these are my way of saying thank you for believing in me and my music. We’ve already been in the studio for several months, so myself, my producer, Daniel Malone, and many of my good friends who are also exceptional musicians are already working toward getting this album out, but I can't finish it without you all. And, to be honest, I don't want to.
Whether you've been on this journey with me from the beginning or you're just meeting me (Hi, nice to meet you), I am excited to have you along for the ride. I can't wait to share this with you.
Risks and challenges
This is an all or nothing campaign. If we fail to raise it all, no one will be be charged, and this project comes grinding to a halt. I will be forced to give up making music in exchange for a desk job that will siphon my soul one paycheck at a time.
Okay, that a bit extreme, but I will have to pay the folks who've already invested their time and talents into making this album what it is so far.
We are all working to make this the very best it can be, and we will be doing everything we can to get the word out. We hope you'll help us do that, too.
