About

Carpo™ Cannabis

Carpo™ is an all original card game where resources are collected and played in ordered sets. Draw up to a full hand, play in front of you as many 3 card sets as you are able, and then discard. Play continues with the next player.

The goal for each play pile is to start with seeds and end with the whole chronology of chronic: complete this three times, and you win. Tabletop gamers that have tested this game have likened it to Rummy, Skipbo, and similar games.

This 129 card deck supports four to two players, and is made to be stackable. Playing with 6 people? Just mix two decks together. Combine as many decks as you need to fit the number of your game night crew.

The theme for this edition of Carpo™ is Cannabis, with all original game graphics to match the theme. Who in your friend circle can go from seed to weed the fastest?

Introduction!

We are a team of three women who have a vision to design tabletop games as basic and weird as we are. For many years, tabletop games have been a huge part of our families, bringing us together and keeping us close. Once a game had been mastered, additional rules were added for a new twist and a new challenge. We have spent many nights discussing game ideas, but it wasn’t until recently that we realized we could actually do this: make a game.

With an initial game idea, a large family, and many friends; we were able to test our idea repeatedly, and better nail down exact rules and card quantities, but still leave some wiggle room for luck. We even have a few different card quantities and rules to keep themes similar in play, but just different enough to keep everyone on their toes.

Our goal is to build a deck that facilitates comfortable play, but also lends itself to player strategy. After many sessions of testing and adjusting, we have compiled rules of play and a deck that is easy to learn and play, but complex enough to keep entertaining for many game sessions.

This is our first edition of Carpo™ and we will continue to develop and roll out other editions with varying themes and rule variants.

Who Are We?

Our team is comprised of Jessica, Morgan, and Ali. All three of us have worked in a variety of industries including art & graphics, medical, janitorial, construction, customer service and retail. Jessica has created the amazing graphics for this game. Morgan has found retailers as excited as we are to share the game. Ali has found professional manufacturers that are understanding of the Kickstarter model and great with communicating price points and fulfillment.

The one common thread we share is a love of artistic hobbies and tabletop games. Together we have hashed out rules, discussed designs, set individual and company goals, and come together to build what is now the Bellingham Game Company, LLC.

We hope to utilize our variety of life experiences, vocational skill sets, and market research to develop many entertaining, strategy-encouraging, table top games for a variety of people to enjoy. We also look forward to eventually earning enough capital to both develop the next game, edition, or expansion and to better support our favorite local charities throughout Whatcom County.

We hope that this Kickstarter will not only jump start this first version of Carpo™ and allow us to feel out the game market, but also get our company name out there and establish lasting relationships with potential customers, manufacturers, wholesale/retail businesses, and many others along the way.

Plan & Schedule

With the combination of our excitement and love of planning, we launched this campaign with a game design that is 80% complete. We realize that this game won’t be possible without your help, so it only seems fitting to allow space and flexibility for your valuable feedback. If you have any feedback for us, we encourage you to let us know your thoughts. This is your game as much as it is our game!

At some point in this campaign, we’ll be releasing two variations of a card for your votes and comments. If the one you vote for is behind, this is a great opportunity for you to recruit your friends to help your vote take the lead!

As things continue to progress, we’ll also release a few variations of mini-set identifiers for easier identification of groupings important to the game play. In keeping with our other graphics, we are doing our best to make these mini-set identifiers colorblind friendly. We would love feedback about this as well: please tell us if something is difficult to read or discern.

Throughout the campaign, we’ll be finishing up the box design, implementing your suggestions, and adding finishing touches. Once the campaign finishes we can send our file to print!

We recognize that some anticipation is a good thing, but that no one likes to wait. We’re super excited to hold the final games in our hands, and even more excited to hear what everyone thinks after playing it for themselves.

Our longest wait will be printing, and then we assemble and pack all the games to ship to you. We want to make sure we get these games printing as quickly as possible. Keep in mind, however, that we won’t keep you in the dark. We will provide updates throughout the campaign and all the way until everyone has their game delivered. Then it’s your turn: tell us what you what you think after you play it!

Our campaign is running for 60 days. As soon as we get the go ahead from Kickstarter for a successful campaign, we will send our files to the printer. We’ll keep you updated with each exciting update. As soon as possible, we hope to get the game in your hands.

This is our first Kickstarter, and we hope it goes flawlessly; however, we also don’t want to nail down a date of delivery until we know we can be accurate with that date. By our best estimates so far, the game should be shipped out to individual backers in October or November.

From Budget to Goal

The hardest part of this whole project so far is setting up a budget and determining a Kickstarter goal. We found a great manufacturer that has worked with many Kickstarter projects, and we estimated how much each game would be to print at a variety of quantities. They also told us the dimensions of the game box and about how much it will weigh.

With this information we were able to calculate shipping to an address in our zip code and shipping to some expensive zip codes. We mathemagically used these shipping estimates to come up with a number and included it in our game price. Hopefully this averaging works out, but even if our shipping estimates are off we will ensure everyone gets their order.

A lot of research was done on card games with similar strategy and number of cards. In order to keep our game in that price range, we figured out that we would need to sell around 350 games during our campaign. As quantity goes up, printing price per game goes down.

We also love stickers (because who doesn’t!?), and so we have included an option to purchase a packet of stickers with two copies each of two different designs related to the game. The sticker sales are also a way to help reach our goal just in case a few people love stickers and our graphics, but aren’t really up for an amazing new card game. Not everyone plays tabletop games, and we understand.

To Sum It All Up...

We are incredibly excited to share this new game with others. Games to all three of us have always been a source of entertainment, creative thinking and strategizing, and good old-fashioned relationship building through time spent together. Whether you play with friends or family, a tabletop game is a good way to pass the time while chatting and catching up.

We hope you like and support this game, and watch for our many games and editions and expansions to come. We have an expansion for Carpo™ Cannabis already in the works. We have quite a few other ideas in various stages of development, and with your help we can get off the ground and running toward a cornucopia of tabletop games for a variety of age groups and lifestyles.

After all this number fussing, with research and spreadsheets and bar graphs, we figured that we could print a run of this card game, ship games out to the masses, and fill up our car with gas to get to the Post Office -- all for the low, low price of $9,700. That’s where you come in.

It all starts here - with you.

Risks and challenges

Although we have all the basic graphics completed for the game, we do need help in making a few final decisions throughout the campaign and hope the community can put in their opinions along side our social media members' opinions. These decisions include grouping tags and the "wild card" final look.
Other potential challenges include relying on others for certain parts of our game; however, we strongly believe the trade off of wait time for professional quality products will be well worth it.
