GripMat Update - Kickstarter Launched Today

Backers -

We launched our Kickstarter today to fund new sizes, and art options. For those of you who backed the $20 GripMat (or as we called them back then play mats) you will be happy to know you got an excellent deal!  Though after waiting as long as you all have - you deserved a good deal.  Production has begun on the Starfield mats - and we should have them in hand, we hope, next week.  Fingers crossed (or whatever your tradition is for luck)... as we still need a good deal of luck when dealing with production it seems.

GripMat Kickstarter Launched!

We launched our next Kickstarter today - and it is your fault. The creation of the  Disaster Looms! GripMat led us to creating something truly innovative that both enhances the game play, and engagement of many games. This project is all about art, and getting more art options. You may want to keep an eye on it as we will be doing some cool things in releasing licensed art form external artists, as well as at least one other gaming accessory innovation. Whether you have a mat coming to you or not - you may want to check these out! GRIPMAT KICKSTARTER Get a Grip on Your Game!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US - and to everyone not... same to you as well. The holiday to me is all about introspection and being aware of all that you have in your life to be thankful for: friends, work, home, coffee... whatever it might be. I have an item on my Thankful For List that most people on Earth do not: backers. It is a great thing you do in placing your faith with another human being - and an act of kindness that undoubtedly has changed, and will continue to change our world. Not just our hobby, but the society in which we live. Kickstarter is truly a community. We need more Kickstarters.

Cheers,  Eric Salyers ~Break From Reality Games~

      Wonderful! Thank you!

@Kenny - if you are receiving a play mat, we will be including a manual automatically. Just make sure the address in Kickstarter is up to date.

Yes, I'm not complaining about a larger mat, certainly! Sounds like I may be going for an even larger one soon.

On another note, I just looked at a recent update, and it mentioned something about requesting a manual. I seem to remember something saying they were going to be included with the play mat shipments automatically, for those who ordered one, is this erroneous?

Sounds good! Getting a larger mat is very nice. I may jump in on some additional mats as well.

      Thanks!

@Dan - yes it was the original plan to do a round mat. But as I pay the the material of a square mat to get the smaller surface area of a circle - I decided to go with rectangle. The rectangle is to make sure there is enough space to fit Disaster Looms! and the expansion CEOs and Corporations. Unfortunately I am limited to a 24" width for manufacturing right now. Thus those who added on the play mat will receive a 32" x 24" Starfield mat.

The original plan were circular mats. Are DL! backers still getting that, or the rectagular mats? If the latter, which size, 24"x24"?

Can't wait to finally give these a try.

Connectors have arrived - everything will ship together - starting next week.

    8. Creator Kenny B on November 27, 2013

      Good to know, thanks!

On a related sidenote, are the updated manuals and inserts coming with the grip mats, or are they still being held until the replacement connectors are ready?

    9. Creator Break From Reality Games on November 27, 2013

@Kenny - I suggest the 2 pack of 18" x 36". I just updated the Kickstarter with an image of TI on a 24" x 32". It sticks over about 1.5" on each side of the 24" width.

Wonderful, thank you! I suspect it will be a bit too small for Twilight Imperium, so I am considering grabbing something larger if this one works out.

    11. Creator Break From Reality Games on November 27, 2013

@Excited - you are mobile! We will be emailing everyone who has a GripMat coming to them to confirm address.

    12. Creator Excited Designer on November 27, 2013

My address has changed twice since disaster looms was shipped. Can I update it with you for the gripmat I get for my disaster looms backing?

    13. Creator Break From Reality Games on November 27, 2013

@Kenny - it is our intention to do this. As in the post, we are hoping to have the mats in our hands next week - and shipped to you as well. Check out the video... it also gives you a great idea of how they perform.

I don't suppose there is any chance that people who added the anti-slip mat to their pledge a year and a half ago will have it in time to evaluate the quality and decide if it is sufficient for their needs before pledging for the current GripMat Kickstarter?
