About this project
These posters will have a final cut size of 18” x 24” and be printed in Montreal. I chose to use thick 80 lb French Paper Speckletone series because of its quality and nostalgic look. Each planet will have its own paper color.
Each poster will have information about the planet that sets one apart from the other, as well as historic discoveries of what would have been known in 1965. All of which is set in beautiful and modern typefaces of that era.
Edit: To see all 8 posters please see Update #11 or visit this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23125262/downloads/Posters-70p.jpg

How it came about
After recently finding old science fiction magazines dating back from the 1980’s, it reignited my childhood memories of my curiosity of our solar system and of limitless imagination. I began researching heavily on NASA missions and came to the realization that the late 1950’s to mid-1970’s were exciting times for new discoveries, for real photographic images of planets and for limitless possibilities. This gave me the incentive to start a personal project based on what I knew very well as a child (creating simple ideas/drawings from imagination) and what I recently researched (the execution of early NASA missions in the infancy of space travel).
I started exploring different styles of illustrations, which I will share with pledgers above the $5 level. The style I have come up with is based on designers and illustrators that inspire me, on mid-century magazine advertisements and on the printing limitations of silkscreening and letterpress.
I decided to create three of the more interesting planets that today still have unexplained features or quirks. But, after being entranced with the research and the artistic interpretations of the planets, I decided to not stop and finish all 8 planets (sorry Pluto).
The money will be spent on production costs and the rewards, including production cost, supplies and shipping (international shipping extra, please see the FAQ for a detailed list).
