My name is Betsy Phillips. I moved to Nashville in 2012 with a goal of writing and singing my own songs for a living. I'm excited to announce I'm taking a huge step toward that goal this spring. I'm releasing an EP called "Like We're Talking.” This project means a lot to me, not only because the songs are very personal, but because I've worked so hard the last few years to write songs I believe in.
THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN
I've already paid for recording, mixing, and mastering on my own. However, releasing music can be just as expensive if you want to do it right. I’ll be paying a publicist to get my music some momentum as well as printing CDs and vinyl. It all adds up quickly! By pre-ordering my new release "Like We're Talking," you'll have access to some awesome rewards such as the original voice memos of the songs, a cover song of your choice, and even your own private house concert! Mostly, you'll be helping get my music out into the world!
ABOUT MY EP "LIKE WE'RE TALKING"
In May of 2018 I recorded a 5 song EP called “Like We’re Talking” with Dan Knobler (Lake Street Dive, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell). I had some amazing instrumentalists play on the album, including guitarist Anthony da Costa (Joy Williams, Sarah Jarosz) and bassist Ethan Jodziewicz (The Milk Carton Kids). The two days we spent in the studio were so much fun. These guys are the real deal!
WHAT I NEED HELP WITH
Printing of CDs
Yes, people still buy them!
Printing Of Vinyl
I've never heard my music on vinyl before. I'm so excited to get these into your hands!
I've hired a badass publicist. Her name is Maria and she will be working hard to get my music some momentum!
About the songs....
"We Don't Stay" is a song I wrote with my friend Natalie Schlabs. I was thinking of all the times my sister and I have driven past our childhood home in Atkinson, Nebraska and I realized I needed to put it in a song. We made so many memories there and decades later still feel such a desire to just go see how it's changed.
"Like We're Talking" is a song I wrote with my friend Robby Hecht. We were talking about the experience of losing a loved one - in this case, someone older and wiser. We decided to write a song from their perspective. In this song, they let us know that it's ok they're leaving and that they will still be here with us in ways that can, at times, feel very real.
"Yours To Forget" I wrote when I was struggling with my first heartbreak in a while. Feeling vulnerable and controlled by the idea that this person could let go so easily, I had no trouble putting it all into a song. Sometimes you need to let some angst out!
"Seeds" came out of nowhere and isn't necessarily based off of true events. I was exploring different kinds of heartbreak and wondered what it would be like to lose someone you promised forever to. The song never gives a reason for the ending, it's simply about the emotional journey of a goodbye.
"Someone Like You" is as happy as this EP is going to get, so enjoy it! Also written with Robby Hecht, this song is one of my favorites to sing. Robby and I were playing around on guitar and I believe I started singing the line "all I ever wanted". At first I thought it was way too simple, but it's held up.
Risks and challenges
Thank you in advance for your support and belief in me and my music! If I don't make my goal of $6000 I won't receive any of the funds - they will be refunded to all the pledgers instead. If you don't have the money to pre-order, I'd love it if you could share this page with your friends! Thanks guys!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
