Neelie's Truthis a Santa Fe Writer's Project winner that has earned honors and accolades.
Neelie's Truth is a novel in the tradition of To Kill a Mockingbird and The Secret Life of Bees. The story is set against the hard boundaries of a small town. What is her truth? You'll have to read the book!
Neelie's story is close to my heart. It reflects the life I lived in a very small town, in a house built by my parents set between a corn field and my grandparents' dairy farm. I had a country start and it has a lot to do with who I am as a writer. I'm in love with cities now...big, brash and fabulous. But the country girl roots run deep.
The opening scene of Neelie's Truth:
"Neelie tucked her cotton flannel nightgown around her feet, poking at the worn soft material. Night dampness bit through the cloth and she shifted her bottom on the wooden step. A circle of light broke the darkness, showing ragged wet stars dotting the tufts of uneven grass. How could blood change so fast from scarlet to black-red?
Without wanting it to happen, her eyes were pulled again to the pile of dull shiny red stuff. It was just stuff, she told herself. Daddy said so--it was all just stuff inside, not worth anything. Against the back wall of the shed, she knew without looking, there was a row of bullet-shaped boards, each covered with a brown pelt. By morning the pelts would be hanging from nail pegs in the basement to dry."
My Kickstarter will pay for:
- Copy editing & proofing (I've got a great editor ready to roll)
- Cover art (of course)
- Formatting (turning my manuscript into perfect pages)
- ISBN # (so folks can find it)
- Library of Congress registration & copies (woohoo!)
- Upload fees (necessity)
- Promotion (bigger necessity)
This is my second venture in Indie publishing. I believe in this book. I hope you do too. Give Neelie's Truth a Kickstart and ask your friends to do the same. Kickstarters only receive funding if they make their goal, so help me kick it out of the park.
My publication goal is for March 2014. I promise to keep all my Kickstarters informed on progress with monthly updates ... unless you would rather just be surprised.

Risks and challenges
My biggest challenge has been managing all the details to create this Kickstarter! But, I'm here, and am glad you are too.
I am confident that I can bring Neelie's Truth to print. It is completely written; has been read by several pre-production readers (authors whom I respect); and will go into copy edit with your support.
The deadline is realistic, barring unforeseen, catastrophic events.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
