"I get paid to talk for a living."- Paul Strickland http://talkingpaul.com/
Nationally touring comedian and critically acclaimed storyteller Paul Strickland has been accused of being “seriously funny,” but his work is best described as “funny seriously.” Though generally unimpressed with the world around him, Paul knows that if you look at anything long enough, you can find something to appreciate. A prolific writer of stories, jokes and songs, Strickland tours the country entertaining, letting people buy him dinner and generally living the raconteur lifestyle: “I firmly believe that making people laugh at themselves and think in a new way about their world is a good way to help them escape while, hopefully, gaining some perspective on what they're escaping from, and distracting them from the fact that I just took their money.”
After not graduating with a degree in vocal performance and creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Paul got married, then divorced, then decided to crash on couches and make stories, jokes and songs his bread and butter, because bread and butter has gotten expensive. Now he is who he is probably as a result of all of that. Paul has completed runs of his first two critically acclaimed one-man shows.
“A Brighter Shade of Blue,” Paul’s first show, received high praise from reviews and was among the TOP TEN BEST SELLING shows at the 2010 Indianapolis Fringe.
“Paul Strickland is a fantastic storyteller and one funny guy. Actually, funny is an understatement — he’s hysterical.”
-Kelly Fitzpatrick ,Orlando Sentinel-
Paul’s second show “Any Title That Works” gathered even more praise:
“What makesAny Title That Worksparticularly appealing is Strickland’s ability to not take himself too seriously even when his tales are mining profound and deep emotions. He has discovered the balance between philosophy, self-revelation and comedy, all wrapped in a poetic lyricism that touches the heart and excites the imagination. Paul Strickland does have a way with words.”
– Al Krulik, Orlando Weekly-
“A comedian by trade, Strickland has wonderful timing and spot-on delivery. But his real strength is as a sensitive and thoughtful writer who illuminates the world through a unique lens. The words of this stand-up-philosopher will linger in your ears all night.”
- Katelyn Coyne, NUVO Indianapolis-
