I self-released "Map & No Direction" in 2017. Now, I'm working on a new record.
I truly cannot make this album happen without you. I'd be thrilled to have you come alongside me and make this record a reality! Why am I asking you to partner with me? As you may have heard from other independent artists, we do this on our own, without the support and muscle of a record label. Traditionally, the label would fund the making and promotion of a new record. Since 2015, I've been making a living as an independent artist. Without label support, I've created 4 albums that I'm extremely proud of, toured the U.S. a handful of times, and built a community of fans that have made this whole journey about as rewarding as it can be.
That's where you come in.
By simply ordering an advance copy of the album, opting for a one-of-a kind experience, or even just sharing this project with friends, you enable me to bring on all the people that will make this album happen. This cast of characters include: studio musicians (THE BAND!), recording, mixing and mastering engineers, producers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, radio promoters and publicists. It really does take a village!
It is my belief that collaboration among different artistic disciplines draws out a stronger piece of work in the end. I've been working tirelessly toward the next thing: the next song, the next album, the next tour. Having people join in on that creative process is a total dream come true for me!
What exactly is this album?
10 new songs are completely written. The last album, Map & No Direction, was written at a time when I was struggling with depression, confidence and purpose. These new songs are the other side of that climb. I've realized that vulnerability is not necessarily weakness, it can be a powerful avenue for resilience and strength. I've found my true north, and begun to plant seeds of optimism for the future. My experience has undoubtedly seeped into this new batch of songs. Lyrically and sonically, this album is a little more upbeat.
Where will it be recorded?
Most of the album will be tracked live at Jettison Studios, near St. Louis. Meet the band!
Excited to announce that John Calvin Abney will be co-producing this record and lending his skills on keys. We have already started the recording process, but need your help to make sure we cross the finish line! Yes, I'll be posting a few pictures of the process on my Facebook page, BUT if you pledge through Kickstarter, you will have access to exclusive updates and content for Kickstarter backers ONLY! Photos, video, and stories about the process!
Timeline: If we reach the goal, I expect the album to be released by late July/early August. And for being so awesome, you will receive the album a full month before it's released to the public. Vinyl orders may take extra time, depending on how backed up the pressing plants are. Everyone who pledges will receive an advanced download of the album, well before it's available to anyone else.
Recording, mixing, mastering, musicians: $8,000
Photography, music videos: $3,000
Publicity/Radio Outreach: $10,000
Manufacturing CD's and Records: $4,000
Goal: $20,000 (bare minimum needed to make this project happen)
Stretch Goal : $25,000 (this would allow for everything listed above)
Risks and challenges
The main risk is that the funding is ALL OR NOTHING. If we don't meet the goal, the album will be delayed, and touring will stall, for who knows how long. But I'm confident that we can all work together to reach the goal and the album will be released into the world with a full tour to follow.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
