Set in the early years of the crusades, Infernax is the adventures of a great crusader who returns to his homeland only to find it plagued with unholy magic.
While on your quest to find and destroy the source of this corruption, you will face ruthless creatures, dangerous beast, precarious terrains and pretty unforgiving game-design.
Using a revolutionary, or at least it was back in 1988, leveling system, Infernax is an old school adventure platformer game with puzzle elements. It's a whole new innovative style and since nobody has ever done anything of the like, we'll name it ourselves, ARPG, which stands for Awesomely Radical Playing... Game, patent pending.
All kidding aside, we tried to capture the essence of the games that left a mark on our childhoods, the ones who lit up the spark that made us want to make games of our own.
This is a recreation of that experience we had growing up playing obscure NES games, the kind of game that left you with a feeling of accomplishment once you beat it, several months after the initial purchase.
This adventure all started out with a crazy idea, to try and make a Berzerk game that looks and feels like a genuine NES game. Basically, if we had been devs back then, this is the game we would have came up with.
We did our best to capture everything that made games captivating and challenging in that era, then gave it slightly more modern learning curves and puzzle solving. While it may not be as cryptic as old RPGs, it's not going to hold your hand either.
The main goal of the Infernax experience is to take the player back to the 80s, when the internet was in black and white and in magazine form. The instant you got back from school, you'd be glued to your TV trying to beat your favorite NES games. There was no bills to pay, no early meeting the next day to prepare for, just a big flickering TV, two NES controllers and some friends.
The story takes place in a fictional mountain village of eastern Europe and has an authentic horror undertone, using many characters from the 80s horror tropes.
Gameplay wise, it's a side scrolling platformer with some RPG elements, you gather spells, armors and weapons all while exploring a vast world and hacking through everything that moves on the screen, it's a game for simpler times.
- Dangerously open world to explore
- Many secret areas to uncover
- Challenging dungeons and boss battles
- Level up system to customize your hero
- Game changing spells
- Multi-endings based on player's decisions.
We've set this kickstarter's goal at 10$ because the game is finished and completely functional, but not really. It would lack some crucial experience elements, it would not have any controller support, no fullscreen mode, no Steam Achievements, no Steam Cloud etc. In fact, it would not even be on Steam at all, you'd prolly need to boot up in DOS and do a voodoo dance or something.
So yeah, we got SOME things to do still, but we'd rather invest that time if we knew at least 2 people other than our friends wanted it.
Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to improve the game if you guys think the project is rad. If we end up with more money than needed to get the ball rolling, we'll put most of it back in the game, save a few happy meals here and there. Take a look at the stretch goals for what could be done with your collective help.
Berzerk Studio came to existence five years ago after the three founders, Étienne, Marc-Antoine and Simon decided to leave their previous Studio. After years of excelling in cute toy related flash game for kids, they took the next logical step: making brutal Viking related games with copious amount of pixelated blood and various silly hats, first aiming for consoles but soon realizing that the world just doesn't work that way.
They went back to their roots soon after and started working on their Web and Mobile portfolio, which now, 6 years later, has about 25 web games and 6 mobile games, some even with millions of downloads!
Now with some experience in actually getting things done, they are ready to tackle the console market again.
They also love to speak of themselves to the third person, for no good reason.
Risks and challenges
As with everything, natural disasters, alien/zombie invasion, chickenpox pandemic, one of us getting ran over by a car driven by a frenzied ex-significant other. Lots of things can go wrong. Realistically, the real challenge will be meeting our backers expectations, the only problem you can't solve by throwing time and money at is people feelings.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
