In the past dozen years, I've gone from scarcely ever playing a guitar, to having a music career as a singer/songwriter. It has taken me all over Texas, to both coasts, onto national television, and even scored me some free beer and BBQ! But the greatest rewards have always been the friendships it has helped foster, and the connection created with others through the sharing of my songs.
Over the past year and a half, I've set my music on the side burner and focused on completing a lifelong dream project that I started long before I ever picked up a guitar... building a hand-hewn log cabin from scratch.
It was tough work.
Now that it is finally finished, I'm struck with a renewed vision about my musical path and know who I am as an artist now more than ever. I have a batch of songs I've written (old and new) that I want to render in raw, stripped-down, acoustic fashion... and where better a place to record them than at the cabin?
So, armed with my old Gibson guitar along with the sounds of the fire popping and crickets chirping, I plan to record my next album at the cabin. It will be called “The Cabin Sessions” and will be released in the Fall of 2013.
There’s something unique about playing out at the cabin that somehow brings out the heart and soul of a song. I want to capture and share that in an album for everyone to enjoy.
This Kickstarter is a way for supporters of my music to play a key role in its creation. The backing goal set for this project will help cover the basic costs of production, mastering, art design, photography, videography, printing press fees, and backer rewards. If we exceed the goal, any extra will just go toward making this album and it's release bigger and better. My sincere thanks go out in advance to all contributors for believing in me and the music I love to make.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge is simply setting aside the time to spend on this project. Time is money, and making an album requires both time and money. That's the primary reason why it has been four years since my last album release.
I operate best under pressure, though. This Kickstarter, and the pledges from fans serve as pressure and a concrete reminder that I am obligated to spend the time and money required to make this idea into reality. Knowing this, I'll get it done with flying colors.
