We have never given up on Float, and over the past 6+ years, Phil and I have learned a lot about filmmaking!

We are excited to let you know that we have submitted the film, which is nearly complete, to a number of film festivals this fall. The film is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2018, and we are finalizing distribution plans for the film.

More updates will be coming as we work through the final steps of post production. You can check back here, as well as the 2nd campaign page, and our website and Facebook pages for more up to date information.

About every 6 months I get the urge to check out the status of this project. I am totally disappointed as I have been and avid modeler and competitor for nearly 35 years. I have flown EzB, other indoor planes and I am heavily into competitive composite sailplanes. This project I thought would provide great insight into the very interesting field of indoor plane, hence my support. However, while this project seems indeed to be dead, I never received any of the backer promotional items either. I have emailed the author many times and rarely got any response. This leads me to believe that we may never see such an ambitious project come to fruition and the benefit of many. If this project is still ongoing, I believe that many of us would still like to hear of its progress. Until then...

Hey Scott, Matt, John and Erick!

Float is not dead. Stay tuned for the exciting end to our 6+ year process. Major updates coming soon.

So I guess this project is dead? Yay Kickstarter. :-(

Three years and counting, but I'm sure we're all waiting patiently. But I'm not sure how many I have left and there are probably quite a few more in the same boat. Is there any word on progress ?

Fellows - how about an update, please? Your very patient backers would sure like to know what is up. I am still hopeful I'll someday see this film and receive my kits but it gets harder to maintain an optimistic outlook after every update-less month. Let us know what happening.

    11. Pablo Jaimovich on January 3, 2015

Yeah... well still not received the kit, and no answers to my emails... so after this long time.. loosing hope to see one day even the documental... :(

How's it looking, Ben? Any updates? When can we expect this to release? (Or when can backers at least see a rough draft to know that something's happened in the last two years...?) The Facebook group has had no updates either since April. That's a long time...

An update on the film was posted to Facebook about a week ago. Unfortunately they didn't put that update here for the backers to see. They decided to continue filming and include the 2014 world champs which just concluded a few days ago. They expect to have an edit of the film done in the fall of this year, and it will go to film festivals in 2015. Backers will get a digital copy of the film as soon as it's done. Go to for the video with more details.

      Hi Guys,

Updates, film status, kits and the project have gone dark for a considerable amount of time. This is leaving some of us supporters in limbo on a number of items. Please ping us individually or here as soon as possible. I have seen that many of the kits have gone out, but some of us have yet to receive further information or our kits.

Can you please not leave us "up in the air"?

Gentlemen - please provide an update of some sort. It would sure be nice to hear what is up with the movie, as well as to receive my other backer reward at some point. I put a lot of money into this project and would really appreciate some sort of update.

Any film updates? Two months ago we were told you were editing and prepping the film for fall film festivals and fall is going to be here quickly. I hope if the film is ready for festivals that we will get our digital copy in advance sine it's so late already.

    23. Christopher Adams on July 8, 2013

Ben, Please contact by PM as I have not received the kits.

Thanks for the comment. We have made some pretty good plans, but being flexible and able to change plans is great. Rolling with the punches sometimes provides the best opportunities. More updates to come!

I really want to see you guys do this. I think that this is a microcosm of all of the aeronautical hobby and sport at this point. Its something that started many years ago now and cant compete with modern toys or video games unless you take the time to really dig into it.

F1D has a mix of old and young competitors and if you go to your local R/C flying field on any given Saturday you will see the same thing. The younger people want things to be new and different. The older people want things to be the same, familiar from their youth. I think competition is a great way to bring old and young people together. If something is new then competition is the best way to test if it is good. People with experience can beat new advanced materials or techniques because they can do a better job of building a finely tuned complete system. Its the complete package that wins contests, not a singular feature or technique.

Even if you don't make your goal, I hope you can still do something with the project. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just ship it.
