Round 3 Goal: $25k - Songbooks for EVERYONE!
Yeah - I realize this looks like a kindergartner made this lil graphic below, but damnit Jim...I'm a musician, not a graphic designer! I'm incredibly honored and lucky to have so many of you interested in this musical path and I can't wait to get it all out there and into your ears. Since we only have a few days left on the campaign, I'm upping the stakes once again. If we make it to $25k then I'm going to use the extra money to make a detailed songbook, with lyrics, chords and stories - kind of like super duper liner notes - and every Kickstarter backer will get one. If you've been waiting to jump in, now is the time! And if you want to share with your friends and get them on board, well that would be most excellent. Thanks all!
You all kick some serious ass! Can I say that on Kickstarter? Who cares...cause you really do and I appreciate the support from each and every one of you - monetarily or otherwise. I'm just happy to be doing what I'm doing and I'm glad there are people out there that want to hear it. We’re gonna get back in the studio in March and finish up the full-length album and then go back in to make a covers EP. Thank you all! We still have some time left on this thing so if you want to use this as a way to preorder the album, everything we get from now on is going toward a full band West Coast tour in the spring. Lots of music coming up. Thanks to you all, friends!
Round 2 Goal: $20k - additional Covers EP!
Great googly moogly you all are the best damn friends/fans/family a musician could ever ask for. We made the initial goal in 5 DAYS. Seeing as how you all are so supportive of this whole crazy music endeavor, I’m going to up the ante. If we make it to $20k (we’re not that far off) then I’m gonna use the extra money to head back into the studio to record an EP of covers in addition to the album we’re working on. MORE MUSIC for your earholes!! I’m really having a great time working on these tunes and I can’t wait for you all to hear them. We're almost there...so let's get all the neighbors and cousins and everyone else involved. Thanks everybody!!!
Hey, my name is Ben Morrison…and I’m making my very first solo album! Normally I sing and play guitar in a band called The Brothers Comatose, but the band is taking a lil’ break from touring until mid-2019, so I’m using that time to try some sonic exploration with new songs I’ve been working on. I’m really excited to work with some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians to breathe some sweet life into new songs I’ve been cooking up. I can’t wait for you to hear them.
Here's a video of my new single '25 Miles'
Every dollar given to my Kickstarter campaign will go toward recording the new album. And if there’s any left over I’m going to buy as much coffee and Tecate as I can to fuel these musicians during the recording process. And if there’s STILL money left over…then we’re going on tour!

Also, I’ve compiled a list of FAQs below so I can hopefully answer everything you might be wondering about.
Is (are?) The Brothers Comatose breaking up?
Why are you making a solo album?
The band is taking a break from touring until spring of 2019 and I wanted to use this time to try something new and exciting. I have a handful of new songs that are begging for some different instrumentation and I’m stoked to get them out into the world.
Where are you recording?
We’re recording to 2” analog tape at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco.
Is it going to sound like a Brothers Comatose record?
No…with the exception of me singing and playing acoustic guitar. So…maybe a little. But the instrumentation is way different. We have drums, electric guitar, bass, keys, background singers and all sorts of cool sounds.
Are you going to tour?
Yes! And if we exceed our initial goal, I’m going to put everything toward getting the full band out on the road to come visit you in your town.
When is BroCo coming back?
Jeez. I’m trying to make my OWN record here. Enough about BroCo. Ha! Buuuut…we have our next tour booked for April of 2019. We’re going to Latvia & Lithuania. We’ll most likely be doing some US touring starting in the summer.
Why are you asking for money? Don’t you have a record label?
Yes…well, sort of. I’ll be working with a brand new label called AntiFragile but they don’t play the role of traditional record label. They want a fully finished album delivered to them and at that point they’re going to help with the promotion and distribution of said album. I still have to pay for the whole record making process: paying musicians, studio time, engineers, mixing, mastering, artwork, video making…which is all pretty damn expensive.
Why should I give you money?
That’s a great question! Well, hopefully you’re here, reading this, because you know me or you’re a fan of The Brothers Comatose and you’re interested in helping me put my first solo album out into the world. I feel like a young boy finally becoming a man, man. This is a special and exciting moment for me and I’m hoping you want to be a part of it.
How will the album will be released?
We’re trying something different with this album. Basically we’re splitting the album into 2 EP's (mini albums). We’re going to release singles digitally, leading up to the first EP release and when the second EP is recorded, we’ll be putting them both together to press the full album in CD and vinyl formats. Also, I’ll be releasing the first single, “25 Miles” on Nov 16th, so keep an ear out!
Risks and challenges
Like I said above, we're doing this album in pieces and releasing songs as we go. You'll get all the singles before they're released to the public and at the very end when all is finished we'll press the vinyl and cds...and that's when you'll get your packages. Just wanted to say all that in case you're wondering why you're only getting one song at a time before you get your album in full.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
