Super Academy: The Series is a planned weekly, comedy web series, about a college for superheros.
The series is a continuation of the short film SUPER ACADEMY, created by Minnesota director, Ben Lifson.
While the script was initially created as a college assignment, Ben (who was graduating at the time) incorporated it into his desire to make something about college life. From this, it exploded into a short film filled with comedy and action, which was about the awkwardness of starting at new school, and rediscovering yourself while there.
The original film follows a group of students who attend The Super Academy - the world's premier college for superhero training.
"Powerkid" is a shy freshman with super strength. He holds a dark secret, that he is the son of a world famous super villain. He came to this school to start a new life, and his greatest fear is the rejection he would face if the truth of his past were discovered. His power is super-strength.
"Dark Cop" is an anti-social super genius, with ego issues. He has no filter, and will not hesitate to tell people what he thinks of them.
Neither had any friends when they first met: Dark Cop by choice, and Powerkid by circumstance. However, through their interactions and battles, they were able to create a bond.
Plus they get to punch things. POW! BAM! POW! :D
Should our campaign be successful, Super Academy will be made into a full, eight episode web series. Each will be 7-10 minutes in length.
Over the course of the season, Powerkid, Dark Cop, and friends will continue to grow through their respective character arcs, developing both as heroes and as people. However, comedy and action will always be a central element of this series.
New characters will be introduced, including villains, faculty, and classmates. One new face is Corona, a foreign exchange student from another planet, and Glyph, a spell caster in her senior year. Plus, returning villains Deathside and Chaotrix wait in the shadows, preparing for their revenge.
All of the episodes will be available free online, and be released weekly. Special editions, and bonus content will be available exclusively to backers (see The Rewards Section)
We are in the early stages of pre-production for the series. We have outlined the plot for the season, we have created our new characters, and are currently drafting the scripts. Next steps include location scouting, casting for additional characters, costumes, and prop and set construction.
Thank you for asking. It's about time we introduced ourselves...

As independent filmmakers we know how to make every dollar count in a production. We need funds for additional equipment rental (lights, sound tech and more), costumes (spandex and leather aren't cheap), food for cast and crew, permits and insurance, and for commissioning of an original musical score. All of these things add up and we need your help to pay for them. The $12,000 will cover all of this for our 8 episode series.
WHAT DO I GET FOR MY MONEY?
Good question. That brings us to...
We have created a huge selection of great rewards suitable for any budget. Any amount you pledge helps us, so if you can only give a few dollars that is great!
At a mere $5, you will be given exclusive behind the scenes access to the production of Super Academy: The Series. You will receive real-time updates as we move through production, including set stills, production updates, and sneak peaks. Plus, you will receive access to a backer exclusive episode. The Super Academy Christmas Special.
For Just $10, you're name will be put into the credits of every Super Academy: The Series episode.
At $12, you'll be given access to the Super Academy: The Series Soundtrack. We'll be scoring all new music for the shows, and you will also get the score of the original film. Here are some free samples, scored by the talented LeKenneth Miller:
We're also creating tons of sweet Super Academy memorabilia, such as Custom Masks, T-Shirts, actual Prop's and Costumes, Trading Cards, and a VHS copy of the series (you read that right VHS, drool over that retro fans).
Other tiers include cool bonus content, including exclusive Creator Commentaries, and a "Special Super Deluxe Edition" DVD or Blu-Ray with exclusive deleted scenes and special features.
In case we didn't say the word "exclusive" enough, let's say it once more: These rewards are and will only ever be available to backers, and will never be released to the public afterwards.
Should we go beyond our original goal of $12,000, we will use that money to add additional content to the series.
Let me be clear: these would be additions to an already fully formed series. The season will not be any less complete without these stretch goals.
$13,500: TWO ADDITIONAL EPISODES
We will be able to produce two more episodes of Super Academy, in addition to our planned eight.
$16,500: NEW 22-MINUTE SHORT FILM
Taking place after the season, this short film would center around the attack of Powerkid's father, and recurring villain, Deathside! Thrown into the greatest battle of their lives, our heroes bond will be put to the ultimate test.
